- We are new to free range chickens and one our chickens a buff orpington was missing for a few day's when she finally appeared she didn't stay out long so I followed her and found her under a stack of plywood raised above the ground with 14 eggs and they felt warm she has stayed with them constantly and comes out to feed and drink then she goes back and stays with the eggs we live off grid and at 9500 feet above sea level it gets cold during the winter going to make this her private dwelling
