Thank you. I believe all my treats are whole grains and I do not see any discoloration on them. However, the old feed I had been feeding both male and female quails has been their primary feed since I think April (all from one bag) when the COVID quarantine began, and the male has shown no signs...
That’s interesting. This is my first time hearing about ergot so it’s good to learn about it. Sad to hear manufacturers don’t check these things before using in feed, though; I wish they cared more about the quality of feed.
If it is ergot poisoning that she had, I suppose there are many ways...
Thank you. That could be it. I've been feeding the same feed to both the male and female quails for quite some time so I doubt it was in the feed to begin with, but it's possible the feed got contaminated while she was outside or she ate something weird. I just got some new Wild Game Grower feed...
Thank you all so much.
Unfortunately most places seem to be closed for the weekend right now, and I am having trouble contacting the places that see birds/exotic animals (there doesn't seem to be many where I live). It may take some time for them to get to me. I will try to call up more places...
Here is another video of it. She only makes these clicking noises as she has the seizure or something. I’m not sure how well you can hear them if at all in the video though. In the background you can hear the male quail; he eats the same kind of food but is very healthy. I keep them separate...
I couldn’t figure out how to attach a video as a file, so I uploaded it here. She seems to make clicking noises and flip over during these episodes, and they are occurring about every minute. I don’t know how she’s even going to sleep.
Hi everyone.
A few months ago my female quail hurt her foot. I think she might have landed on it wrong and got it a bit twisted, and had Bumblefoot for a bit. I gave her some Epsom salt baths and applied triple antibiotic ointment. I thought nothing much of it cause I figured she’d get better...
Thank you for the suggestion. I thought about taking her somewhere for a necropsy, but my other quails act very healthy and as active as ever. I’m torn between giving her a proper burial and getting a necropsy; I will think about it.
My quail is probably not as tame as yours. Usually she’s okay when I’m very close to her (as I did to sweep the floor), and she is occasionally okay when I touch her, but normally she does not like it when I try to pick her up (although I did treat her for mild Bumblefoot before and she was okay...
The ground and walls are concrete so they’ve never been bothered by predators before. I’ve placed two small sandboxes, a few plants, and her food/water bowls. There’s also a plank of wood and piece of cloth if she wanted to rest on another surface. Unfortunately there isn’t much dirt for her to...
I need help. My Coturnix quail suddenly died and I don’t understand why, she was still so young (not even a year old yet). I think maybe it was mostly stress, but if it was some kind of disease/environment issue then I need to know because I have two other quails in the same enclosure. I kept...
Hello everyone! I have a year old quail who layed a strange egg yesterday, very different from normal. Normally the egg is white with brown speckles, but this egg was a coffee color with many small speckles. It’s the first time I’ve seen an egg like this. I’m just curious why this may be the...
I haven’t been to my backyard as much because I didn’t want to disturb my broody quail, but because of it the ants and slugs have been having a field day! Population exploded—there’s ants running around and drinking her water, and the slugs have been wading in her water and food bowls. Now that...
Hello everyone! My quail has become broody, and she’s a lone quail, so I decided to set some fertile eggs under her so that she can hatch out a friend. Just today, some have hatched! However, this is both my first and her first time with a real nest. She seems quite agitated and doesn’t know...
