    Looking to rehome a silky rooster. On the south shore. Hatched 6/5/2013. Preventative deworming 8/18/13. Feed Blue Seal poultry food and excess garden vegetables. Very friendly, handled since born. Take or trade for hen any color.

    Not quite 3 months old, born several days apart. All three stick together and do not mix with the other hens. One silky is definitely the leader. Watches out for the other two and explores first. .

    Need to get rid of FLYS!!! they are constantly on the chickens and ducks food. Any ideas?

    Try freezing water in plastic containers. The hens can roost near the blocks and cool off a bit. Electrolytes in the water may help. I used a small fan to enhance ventilation and manage through the day. Obviously offer plenty of water. Longer term ventilation and perhaps a misting system...

    I too use sand for the coop floor, live on the south shore, Massachusetts, zone 6. Installed about a yard and a half in an 6' X 12'. Coop built on 16" X 4" x 2" cinder blocks burried in the ground. Build coop with a clean out door, outside the fenced in area to make annual turn over a bit...
