First timer. Sending Apollo to freezer camp…

Well, it’s done. It was much easier on my heart thanks to y’all’s support and encouragement. I really appreciate it. ♥️ It all went very well and holy crap he was a big boy!! I’m not sure how much bigger they get after 20 weeks?? (LMK) But, if he wasn’t done growing… he was fixin to be a...

Thank you. I think it’s so cool that u do all your cooking with wood! Wow. I’m gonna look up some info about the temps on those stoves and see if I can come up with something. You can’t go wrong with low and slow generally. So I think it’s a great suggestion. Ty again!

First timer. Sending Apollo to freezer camp…

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I’m definitely on the same page as you. But it’s really reassuring coming from others. Thank you for that! I would feel awful if I waited until “something happens”, with my instincts telling me not to. I trust my mom gut 100%. Still stings of course. BUT...

First timer. Sending Apollo to freezer camp…

Well we got an accidental roo as a chick. He’s a RIR. He bit me just before vacation. Pretty hard. Now he’s begun sizing up my 8 year old since we got back a few days ago. And CROWING. Holy cow!! Sooo loud and non-stop. He’s just shy of 20 weeks old, so I guess he’s just a late bloomer with the...

Why tho? (Oyster shell on the side)

Hi! MY goals are to feed the best biologically appropriate diet that I’m able to afford to keep my birds as healthy and long lived as possible. My birds aren’t to the laying stage yet so hopefully starter/grower is fine for now. (They’re about 3mos old.) It’s unmedicated/organic and they also...

Why tho? (Oyster shell on the side)

I understand that since I have a cockerel in my flock (still on starter/grower rn) that it would be best to use all flock feed with crushed oyster shell on the side. But, why? Won’t he eat the oyster shell too? I’m not sure why this is better if he is also eating the oyster shells?? Thx!

Hey Burger, how’s your chick doing?

4 wk old Chick still fuzzy

I’m not sure by the pics. But one of my RIR feathered in slowly like that and was kinda “curly”. Turned out to be male. Not sure if that’s the case with yours, but it’s possible. I should mention mine’s legs and feet were thicker and his waddles showed up early. He also just feels different...

    Little Tractor of Freedom

Fair enough! And I should say, I would not have the breed that I do if not for my background with dogs. They’re not an ideal pet dog for the majority of people and it’s only due to her individual nature that she’s suitable with the chickens. So that’s my disclaimer re my dog. Individual mileage...

    Little Tractor of Freedom

Are you SURE you aren’t a dog person?? I’m willing to try to convince you to be a dog person if you’re on the fence! 😜 She’s a good one. Doubt I’ll ever get so lucky again. ❤️

    Little Tractor of Freedom

It’s great for what I need it for atm for sure. It’s been accessorized with a shaded section and portable sandbox and little roosts. And the weather rn is just phenomenal! (Finally!) I previously built another coop/tractor with hardware cloth and all the bells and whistles. It’s just heavy as...

    Little Tractor of Freedom

Oh boy do I know it!! And it is chicken wire indeed. Although, I did put hardware cloth on the door so they can comfortably step in and out. It’s just to confine them during the day. They’re still sleeping inside at night. We have bald eagles, hawks, Turkey vultures, raccoons, feral cats, and...
