    frost bite on combs

I just noticed today that a couple of my "chicas" appear to have "freezer burn" on the some of the tips of their combs. We are in Minnesota and a week ago our temps went down to -26f....now I see this. Would putting vaseline on the tips help with the healing? I've never had this happen before...

    Chick poo question & pic

They are the same chicks. They started laying towards the end of August and have been laying regularly since. I have a try of oyster shell for them...I'll add more to make sure there is enough. Thank you for the reply!

    Poo concern

One more time with the poo! Yesterday I found this (pic #1) on the poop shelf. Today I found (pic #2). That whole corner of the poop shelf was soaking wet....don't know who. Looks concerning to me, but what do I know? Any feedback would be very much appreciated! Thanks Attachments #1.jpg 373...

    1-3 eggs a day

This is a continuation of the above...this pic shows today's eggs...clearly one of the EE, which have been laying since Aug 20, daily, beautiful little pullet eggs at first, growing steadily and now this, which is also very thin shelled....should I be concerned?

    1-3 eggs a day

I've just experienced the same thing....I have 7 pullets, 2 EE among other breeds. Most started laying about a month ago. One, my sapphire gem, just started this week. This morning I went out and collected 6 eggs, only 1 blue/green....figured the other EE took the day off. After a couple of...

Comment by 'Mis pollitos' in article 'Reasons for Tossing Out Your Indoor Brooder and Start Raising Your Chicks Outdoors'

After reading your article I took my new "chicas" outside (at about 2 weeks)...best thing ever. I live in Minnesota. They were(are) protected with plastic all around & heater in there. I was very concerned the first night as the temp went down to 30. They did great! In the future all my new...

    Chick poo question & pic

Have some new chicks, the oldest around 10 days old, youngest about 7 days. I have seen this poo 2 times, once yesterday and this one today, very stinky, but don't know who is doing it. They've not been outside at all. Only have starter food and fresh water. Should I be concerned? Doesn't seem...

    Is my chick’s poop normal?

I have some questions along this line as well. Have some new chicks, the oldest around 10 days old. I have seen this poo 2 times now, but don't know who is doing it. They've not been outside at all. Only have starter food and fresh water. Should I be concerned? Doesn't seem natural to me. Thank...

Cull? Found mass under roost bar this morning

This isn't a reply to the subject being discussed, but I don't know how to start a question. I hardboiled some eggs for lunch and cut them in ½...in one I found what appears to be a small stone (see photo, on narrow lined paper) imbedded in the white, had to dig it out!
