I have never heard of red mite resistance, but it sounds like a great feature! I have never had a pre-made chicken coop before, so idk if it is typical to have a warranty, but if I had to guess, I would say a 25-yr warranty is top tier.
We got our ducks in May 2014 - so they are about 9-10 months... and they grew so fast, we could hardly believe it! So this is the first season of laying.. literally the day after we switched to layer feed. They seem to be taking turns with the same nest, then they just started a 2nd (there are 3...
How is it that they are moving the eggs?.. if this is what's happening. I'm trying to get my hands on a camera.. if I do catch any video, of anything, I'd love to post it
So.. we've got 1 male Rouen and 3 females, we got them last late spring/early summer (2014). They just started to lay eggs a little over a week ago. We collected the first few then decided to let the clutch build in hopes of babies this spring. I started to mark on the eggs so we'd leave most...
I do.. and I have! I carry a large fishing net with me and when he doesn't leave me I catch him in it, force him down then grab his ankles until he calms down... then I can hold and pet him. But this is something I must do every single day I encounter him. Before I used the net... I even hit him...
Thank you, this is very informative. But I have to ask, when you say "THEN place fresh eggs..." I get that you mean a new batch - hopefully I can mix with other hens' eggs... but do I collect these fresh eggs and store them some how (We are trying to avoid purchasing more chickens or fertilized...
So our Rhode Island Red seemed to always be in the nest box, maybe three days in a row, chasing off any other hen who dare come back into the coop for feed. There was so much fighting going on I thought maybe I should separate her (keep my other hens safe, as well as eggs safe from threats and...

I actually have just been reading after another post I made and similar response. She is so very much a Guinea.. and after reading sounds like a female still.. but I have to wait to catch her (at night) and do some assessing. Probably cut back the Turkey and just leave it at 'Lurkey' !
Thanks...
After reading about Guineas now... it explains a lot! ha! We kept thinking.. "shouldn't it be getting bigger??" and the alarm sounds it makes is so obvious an alert for the rat that goes in the coop and steals the food... (sigh) makes so much sense... Thanks everyone! I don't know if we'll re...
Anyone know what kind Mr. Rhett Rooster is? We finally got a complaint about him and have been looking for a home ever since. He's in "temporary" housing currently. We love, love, love him but are seriously considering a new home for him.. it just seems impossible to find people who won't eat...
