Help! Will mother mallard hen reject her ducklings??

We re-introduced the 3 babies to mom and the other four... They did well. They are all huddled together and staying together. We watched their behavior for a good 45 minutes to an hour. We think they'll all be fine and much better off with mom. My friend will keep an eye on them for the rest of...

Help! Will mother mallard hen reject her ducklings??

They are domesticated. Thanks for your help. Our idea was to try to reintroduce them tomorrow (after tonight's cold spell), and to see how she reacts. Sounds like we had the right idea. Thanks again for your input! I will let her know.

Help! Will mother mallard hen reject her ducklings??

My neighbor/friend has mallard ducks and one of her hens hatched 7 ducklings 5 days ago (last thursday). On the day they were hatched, 3 of the 7 ducklings fell into the pond and couldnt get out completely bc the water was low. Mother hen didn't help them. They were freezing and trembling, so my...

Niacin vs. Save a Chick for leg injury in duckling

I have a duckling limping around on one leg. It eats and drinks regularly. I've read that niacin can help with leg problems, however I've given it Save a Chick (which contains niacin) since it hatched (maybe 5 days ago). Does anyone know if there is enough niacin in the Save a Chick to help? The...

Thanks for your compassion. I appreciate your kind words. I do have more ducklings, and they are thriving. Just hate to see suffering and be helpless about it.

    My duckling can't poop!!!!

Too late. He didn't make it. I feel so horrible. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he had some intestinal issues.

    My duckling can't poop!!!!

I have a 4 day old mallard duckling who can't poop! I've noticed the past few days he's been sick... breathing heavily, and only eating and drinking very little. Today I watched him back up to poop several times with no luck. I picked him up and noticed crust around his bottom then noticed what...

    Help!

Thanks for the help, everyone. For now, I have the lamp off, and all the doors open so the light breeze can go through the building. The temp is staying at around 85ish. They seem to be comfortable, not panting, but not huddled up as if they are too cool. Active as well. Good for now and I will...

    Help!

I knew what they meant... Lower the temp, raise the lamp. It doesn't get too hot if the lamp is off, if and when it does, I cool the building with a fan. I just didn't know if it was safe to turn lamp off completely during the day when the building is warm enough on its own. Thanks for the help!

    Help!

I have ducklings in brooder in my (un air conditioned) shop. I don't know if I need to use the heat lamp during the day. It's been getting up to 80-88 degrees outside lately and it gets very hot inside the shop. I've been opening the doors and raising the heat lamp as high as I can reach, but...
