Thank you- that was helpful. Since what Austro has is dried old poop.. and it is me who gets to clean her up ,,,, I guess Austro is ok. Looks like she is ready for another de-pooping session tomorrow, I am going to try and trim her floof back there as she has an incrediably fluffy butt...
Thank you- interestingly we just found out today that my daughter has a campflobactor infection ( I am misspelling that..). We assumed she got it from our new baby chicks that we got about 3 weeks ago.
Could Austro have a campflobactor infection? She seems to be fine....... should I medicate...
Hi all!
I have not been on for a long time but I have a strange question now...
We have a 4 year old Austrolorp hen named Austro. Austro has recently developed a problem when she poops. For some reason it is sticking to her feathers and creating a giant poop ball. I have to give her a bath...
hum.... thank you foxypopproxy. I have to admit, the weather is giving us "chicken slaves" the blues too.....
maybe I will go to the pet store on friday and get them a bunch of crickets (11 for a dollar!) they usually go crazy for them- hopefully that will cheer them up!
I have not seen any blood. Their poop does look a bit different then normal- more brown instead of white and green. I figured it is because they are probably getting too much protein.... they have trained us into giving them a tin of cat food every day......
I don't worry too much about the lack of laying. Our Americana (Easter Egger) gave up last spring, I am not sure when the Silver Wyndotte gave up, sometime this summer. One Austrolorpe gave up recently and the other one is finishing her molt.
The worry is that they don't want to do anything...
If you mean eating feathers then first of all, how much protein are you giving them? sometimes they eat feathers because their low on protein. To remedy this, I give my hens a mash a wet and dry cat food every morning until the picking ceases. Also, when I have that sort of problem every day I...
This sounds sort of like when my chicken had sour crop. She was "throwing up" what looked like spit and water. What do their crops look like? Do you notice anything unusual? If their balloon like then I would suggest draining them. Hope this helps.
Hi-
I am posting for missychicky. She has four three + old hens who are being very lethargic. They are staying in their coop all day. Mostly they either roost in the run or roost in the coop. The coop has a 60 watt red light in it to keep them warm. We are in Oregon and it has been rainy...
Salem Oregon chicken sitting:
Hi-
I am Missychicky's mom. She would reply personally but she is at school at the moment. She has a pet sitting/ chicken sitting/-if-it-is-an-animal sitting service here in Salem Oregon. She is experienced in taking care of chickens, cats, reptiles.... many...
mom again....
Ralphie seems a lot better and she has had some normal poops. I have been getting crusty white plaques that smell really bad (or so I am told, I can't smell very well). These seem to be responding well to the anti fungal treatment. What happened today was that I was cleaning...
Hi, Missychicky here-
I have gotten several lumps of gelatinous goo out of ralphies vent. I don't know what they are or if it is something to worry about. Other than that ralphie seems to be steadily improving, her poop is getting more normal and she is feisty as ever. Even the crust on her...
Ralphie is doing much better this evening!!! missychicky came home tonight and Ralphie perked up a lot!! the vent is not prolasping nearly as far as it was and Ralphie is not straining anymore. She still has white watery poop and the strange white plaques are still on her vent. However they...
