    March Hatch-A-Long

Finally caught up on all the posts here. Didn't enter the Easter hatchalong, my chicks rarely hatch on due date and since my main incubator failed I now have all the staggered hatches running in my hatching incubator, turners either side with a basket in the middle for hatches. I did try...

Saying Goodbye and a Learning Experience

Thank you for sharing your story, sounds like Hildy was an amazing girl who was very much loved. So sorry for your loss :hugs

:hugsIt's disheartening, just guessing my hatch rate might be 10% for the last 5 months or so. First time in years at hatching chicks and I don't remember it ever being so hard. Still exciting to get even 1 to hatch though but hard seeing them dis but almost to hatch stage :(

    March Hatch-A-Long

Last chick for March hatched. I'm amazed any survived given the dramas with power and incubators. 2 days of planned power outages covered by the generator I bought to save losing my first shipped batch back in October, 2 short blackouts in the middle of the night wrapped in blankets for half an...

Love your brooder box! I use oaten chaff for bedding, it's soft warm and shouldn't hurt if they eat it but I think lots of people use shavings. Depends how many chicks you have and I have put new chicks straight in with 1 week olds under the titan but there were only about 5 bigger chicks and 1...

I have a titan brooder, they are similar to the brinsea eco glow but half the price. I paid about $79au not sure how that compares but it's very good although I find it gets too hot for the chicks if set low over them. Much safer than heatlamps and the chicks love it. I run staggered hatches so...

Thank you. The guineas take around 28 days to hatch but otherwise they are much the same, I'm now setting batches 7 days apart so the guineas fit in better with times going into hatcher because I kept getting caught with eggs due to go in while others were on hatch day if that makes sense

Don't worry too much. Almost all mine have been hatching late even 3 or 4 days over. They are mostly healthy chicks despite the delay. I raised the temperature in the main incubator and they are now starting to hatch mostly on time.

I'm in! So far staggered hatches due on 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 15th. Mostly only a few eggs each group, guinea fowl and belgian duccle milliefluers or black mottle. So far only the millies seem to make it to hatchday but hopefully that will change :fl

Sorry to hear, sometimes they just don't make it. Hatching chicks is fun but it's sad losing any.

    February Hatch-A-Long

These are my hatches for the week. First was a chick and a guinea fowl keet, then 2 chicks and then 2 chicks yesterday. They were staggered but a bit too close because we had a heatwave and I wasn't storing the eggs more than a couple of days. These are the first hatches that have been on time...

    February Hatch-A-Long

I'm up to around 112 days running new incubators and only just getting them sorted the last couple of weeks, temperature too low, temperature too high, etc but they are finally starting to hatch on due day so I'm happy.
