Thank you.
I painted the inside with an exterior white paint. However, I’m thinking of repainting it with a white barn paint. I heard it makes cleaning much easier.
I have 2 of these units (older and newer). Initially I loved them.
During the first winter, water did not freeze in the one located inside the coop. However, water did freeze in the one located in the Run. When I called the company, they said it had to be protected from the elements. They...
Hi @Smearedred
We added leftover hardie board under the frame to keep the wood from touching the ground directly. We also put an apron of the green PVC coated welded wiring to prevent critters from digging.
Hi @Thewayfaringnerd
Here's a picture of the Run Chicken door that I got from Amazon.
I used one of the nesting box dividers to cover up the opening since they usually fell down anyway. There is a small gap at the top but I'm not worried about it as I usually keep the run door closed. It was...
It wasn't too hard to remove the rails. I am not very handy so I used small crowbar and gently pulled away the frame. Kept the pieces for scraps.
Here are a few pictures - one from a few years ago and one more recent. I attached some shower curtains to keep out the wind, rain, and snow...
Hi
The automatic door is from Omlet. It’s a bit pricey but worth every penny. The customer service is vey good.

You could also get the Run Chicken auto door. It’s cheaper and they also have good customer service...
Hi
I have the same coop and auto door. I took the sliding door and frame off, then added a small shims to screw the nails into since the wall was thin. It’s worked perfectly for over 2 years now. I also put a piece of vinyl flooring and added an Omlet roost bar to the inside.
Hi @stone_family3
Sorry for the delayed response as I wasn't getting notifications.
My new coop is holding up nicely. I have 5 girls and they fit perfectly. However, if I were to do it again, I would get a slightly bigger coop so they have more room to hang out in when the weather is bad.
I use hemp in my coop and love it.
I live in PA. I’ve ordered from both Carolina Coops and Old Dominion Hemp. While the prices have gone up, the hemp lasts a long time for me since I only have a 4x6 coop.
My first coop was a prefab from TSC. I lined the metal pullout floor with a piece of laminate flooring. Originally I used hemp on the floor but switched to Sweet PDZ. Once the tray was filled, I found it difficult to pull out the tray so I simply scooped the poop daily. I also added a...
Hello,
I’ve been using horse pine pellets from TSC in my chicken run for almost a year now and very happy with the results. However, the price of these pellets have risen and more expensive than the wood pellets I use for my pellet stoves.
Is is safe/ok to use the wood pellets in my chicken...
Hi @Sueby
Well it took a while to get the modifications done on the new coop and install the fence/run area. My husband & I aren't "handy" so I had to have someone do the modifications and fence installation. We added the bamboo to hold up the netting.
I copied the modifications that you did...
I also have the Omlet auto door and found the light function to be unpredictable. I tried several different light settings and it never worked as expected. Ended up using the time function which has been consistent every time.
Yes, there is enough room for chickens to go under, about 14-15 inches. However, I plan to block mine off with hardware cloth as I'm concerned they will lay eggs there and/or go there when injured and it would be difficult for me to crawl under and get them.
