    Lice treatment in winter

D’oh...my girls WOULD have their first ever molt in the middle of winter instead of in the fall. Such divas. Can’t hurt to treat them and clean the coop anyway...I’m certain she had fuzzy clusters on the feathers below her vent that look like pictures of lice I saw. Sorry for my paranoia.

    Lice treatment in winter

Rookie chicken keeper here so please bare with me. I’m positive my girls have a bad case of lice. I’ve done my research and much to their chagrin (they don’t like being handled; I didn’t raise them from chicks) I am going to need to treat them multiple times with DE, garden poultry dust, or...

    Eggs changing color??

White Australorp, Buff Orpington, and an Easter Egger. I was thinking maybe it was my EE but the eggs are large normal sized eggs and my other two paid tiny eggs at the start.

    Eggs changing color??

So my Orpington started out laying a sort of dark cream colored egg and now she is laying straight up dark brown (beautiful!) eggs. Not progressively getting darker just an abrupt change. Is this just her maturing or something I should be concerned about?

Converting my shed to a coop!

Thanks SO much for the input!! I’ll be getting started in the next few days and I’ll be sure to post some pictures when it’s all done.

Converting my shed to a coop!

@AllynTal I didn't even begin to think about keeping rain from getting in the vents. There is MAYBE 2"-3" of overhang all the way around. If I do the vents up high on front and back like you suggested I don't think I'll need to worry (especially with the bit of tree coverage in back). But...

Converting my shed to a coop!

Haha I can assure you it will not look like a palace in the end. Especially once it's covered in bird turds.

Converting my shed to a coop!

Definitely going to have a run but this way in the hot summer I can leave the screen closed but keep the wood doors open to allow for tons of air flow.

Converting my shed to a coop!

First time chicken owner and while the coop I have is a great little coop...winter is around the corner and I want a more weather hardy coop for my girls. Plus chicken math is real and a larger coop means room for more chicken babies. I currently have a wood shed in the back that I've been...

    Hello!

Hi there! I'm brand new to raising chickens. I've had them for close to a month. I have a white austra (Dorothy), a buff Orpington (Blanche), and an Easter egger (Rose).

    Wet spot in nesting box

I'm very new to caring for chickens. I have three pullets all about egg laying age. One has been laying for about 8-9 days and the other two haven't started yet. I figure it's normal to maybe have a day or two without an egg and the one laying (I think it's the white austra) usually lays in...
