I'm in the same boat. We have a Barred Rock Rooster and a mix of hens that were given to us. Breeds for the hens are Barnevelder, Black Austrolorp, and Buff Orpington. Everything I see refers to the barred rock being the hen not the rooster. Just hatched our first chicks. 5 of 6 eggs so far...
