Interesting..........very interesting. Now I know what a "capon" is........LOL.
As far as the egg......I'm going by what my wife said, I didn't probe myself.
We'll keep an eye on her, for sure.
Great, will get some oyster shell right away, thanks for the info, aart!
Update on the bird: Got home, and she was out with the others, but not acting 100%. So, we brought her in to the kitchen for a warm bath/massage. We let her soak for a good while, massaging her belly the whole time...
Thanks.
Feed is a starter/grower ration still. No oyster shell on the side yet, as I'd seen info to wait until they were all laying? Or maybe that was to wait to switch to layer ration........
Fingers crossed she's pushed it out by the time we get home this evening.
Age: 20 weeks, 1 day
Eggs Layed: 1 (we suspect her, anyway)
Symptoms: Lethargic, distended abdomen, watery/clear poop, seeks solitude, no interest in eating.
What we've tried: We've done the vent probing, and my wife feels an egg about 2.25" in. She probed around the egg with a lubed...
We got our first on Friday, the 3rd! We weren't there for it, so we told the neighbors to claim it. Pretty sure it was a barred rock, they said "One of the rocks is making a new sound....."......Sorry, no pics! Will post pics of the next ones!
16 week, 3 day old mixed flock of Buff Orps, Barred Rocks, RIR, and Eggers.........getting closer.......some are redder in the comb/wattles than others......
Oh yeah, I remember having to do all that rigamarole now. All my other forums I visit, I can just use the "IMG" link, paste it into a post, and it brings the pic up automatically.
Thanks for the reminder!
Birds are 9 weeks old, and no real pronounced combs.......nor any...
So, I have all the wire up, the roost built, the ramp built, pop door rigged, etc. (forgot the camera card, so can't load pics yet).
Question of the day: For the TOP of the run enclosure, is there any reason I couldn't use regular bird netting, instead of wire/hardware cloth?
DOH, never...
Our 4 week olds turds are huge now, too. Seems a natural progression to me, but maybe we'll both learn something new! (also just switched to the horizontals)
Not sure it's the color......we have ours in a blue kiddie pool, and they scratch the pine out of the way, and peck like crazy at the bottom of the pool!
They also peck on the orange/white wall panels.
