    New chicken is a bully?

Hahaha great name ideas!! I was leaning towards Sassy but now I’m thinking Xena. She left the silkies her own size alone only picked on the little ones. The rooster finally had enough and jumped on her so I put her back in her pen. Taking it slow, little trips out each day. Hope she’s not an...

    New chicken is a bully?

I just got two new silkie hens, I had a rooster and 4 silkies before. I let the new ones out of their pen supervised with my old ones and one of the new ones is bullying my old ones. I’ve never heard of that. I always thought newcomers were bottom of the totem pole. She seems to just be chasing...

Chick and older chicken run setup HELP

I'm going on vacation for over a week and will have someone coming once a day to help care for my chickens. My question is regarding my setup for 6 5 week old chicks. Right now I have a large secure run with attached coop for my 3 month old chickens. I have put my 6 younger ones inside the run...

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

Thank you I'll search that. Its funny we live in a busy populated suburban area and there are bears everywhere. Some seasons we see them a few times a week at random times. They mostly go for seeds or trash but I've seen some sad posts for those that have chickens with just basic wire.

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

Hmm ok and its too expensive to get this and find that out tbh. I'm worried a shed won't be insulated enough. Why aren't there just premade coops that actually do what they're supposed to do? I've heard alot of people like the producers pride sentinel one but not enough ventilation etc. There's...

Give me a viable Eglu Cube alternative

Did you end up getting it? How do you like it? I'm considering getting a eglu setup.

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

They do include stakes to secure it down and I've heard they're actually pretty heavy because its all doubled walled. They sell tarps that bungee down on top of the run.

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

I have 10 chicks so will most likely have a rooster or two I'll need to rehome. There are stakes that comes with it to secure it down. There are bears and I've seen posts about them ripping off chicken wire to get to hens. I have seen a few posts of bears not getting into these but maybe they...

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have 10 bantam chicks, 3 assorted and 7 silkies so I’m sure I’ll have a couple roosters that I will need to rehome (I have a farm who has offered to take any for me). So I’m sure I’ll end up with 9 or less. I’ve heard someone people put hardware cloth on...

Eglu Large Cube and Walk-In run

Hi Everyone, I've read every post I can find about the Eglu coops and I've read sooo many reviews online, I've researched all of the other wood coops that have been recommended and think I'm leaning towards the Eglu for the low maintenance and easy cleaning even though its $$$. My only concern...

    Silkie chicks not liking handling

I got 3 mixed bantams a week ago that were sweet and liked being held from the start. They’ve gotten more sweet every day. I got 4 silkies chicks today and none of them want to be held at all and struggle the hold time you time. Do I just keep picking them up so they eventually stop minding? Or...

3 week old chick hard impacted crop

Thank you so much for your reply! I have the three babies in a large sterilite bin with a heat lamp on one end, water on the other and food in the middle. I watch them a lot and the chicks wander around evenly and prefer to sleep near the lamp end but not directly under so I think the temp is...

3 week old chick hard impacted crop

I have a 3 week old chick that has had a hard impacted crop about the size of a marble for 4 days. I did not realize when I got her that there was an issue because I am new at this. I noticed the crop looked slightly bigger than the other chicks but she has been eating, drinking, and active. She...
