    Hatching eggs under Wyandotte

I I did have a previous broody before who killed one of the chicks as soon as they hatched. So what do you think I should do to prevent this?

    Hatching eggs under Wyandotte

Hi I have a wyandotte hen who's been incubating 4 eggs and its now day 19 (lockdown). I was just wondering if any users have experienced using a wyandotte as a mother hen as I've heard that they aren't really good mothers. Unsure if I should take them away at this point and lock them down in the...

    Wyandotte broody leaving nest

I did candle them as soon I put them in the incubator this morning yes, but I found it hard to see any movement inside the eggs as they're so dark inside, they're also bantam eggs. I've just left them inside the incubator hoping that they do hatch tommorow. Its just that I found it a little...

    Wyandotte broody leaving nest

I honestly was planning that in the beginning, but this one has quite a story to it. The rooster who'd fertilised her eggs is the same breed as her and he was sadly taken by a fox about a week ago. So I can't really risk losing the chicks if you know what I mean. But if you think thats its...

    Wyandotte broody leaving nest

Hi there ive got a wyandotte broody hen that should be on lock down (day 20). She doesn't seem to be stable with the eggs, as she keeps getting up. Of my knowledge I know that she should be very comitted in the lockdown stage as its a day before hatch day. Ive checked the eggs a few times and...

Ah right, my silkie is also very small. Not sure why it looks bigger in these photos. I still feel that she's a chick , doesn't feel like 5 months lol

    Silkie Male or Female?

I see where you're coming from now, its just that I thought my silkie's crest was supposed to look like your white silkies crest. I think it just differs with the genes.

    Silkie Male or Female?

Thats some useful info, thanks. It hasn't crowed or laid an egg. But just what signs other than the crest are there that may prove that its a hen?

    Silkie Male or Female?

No actually, I bought 6 silkie eggs from eBay and hatched her under my broody. 2 were fertile but it was only her that managed to survive.

    Silkie Male or Female?

That's leaving me hope then, does yours also have a comb like that or smaller?

    Silkie Male or Female?

I agree, the only thing that makes me hesitant about this one is that the hair on its head is flat and normally silkie hens would have that rounded hair style on their head
