    will they eat macadamia nuts?

I threw some mac nut shells in my run, thinking it would add to bedding, but the chickens went crazy for them and started eating it. Then I panicked and am hoping it's ok for them to eat. Do you think it acts like grit?

    Eyes shut & leaking fluid

None of my other chickens have lesions or leaky eyes. Iʻll keep an eye out though. Thanks for general care tips! Will do that right now and try to get some photos of inside of beak.

My current coop and run is built from whatever my husband found lying around. Iʻm grateful for his McGyverying - but when we can upgrade, I want Justin Rhode's setup!

    Sweet Potatoes or Yams?

In Hawaii, we traditionally (before commercial feed) fed chickens cooked sweet potato and yam peelings.

    traditional feed

I have to admit, I'm obsessed with chicken research, it's a rabbithole of this BYC forum, Pinterest, youtube, and random blogs on the web. Today I started wondering, what did my native Hawaiian ancestors feed chickens before commercial feed? I was surprised to find out traditional chicken...
