I understand. I just want to make sure I'm doing all I know how to do to give her the best chance of being part of my flock. If she can't make it then it is meant to be. Mother nature makes these decisions.
Thanks for the input. I removed her because the others are pecking at her, walking on her and piling on top of her. I've "saved" her from the bottom of the pile twice already. I've already lost one and I understand sometimes it's natures way of keeping flocks healthy. I just want to be sure...
Today is day three of my new flock of 8. I have one that is failing to thrive. I lost one on day two. Last night she chirped for an hour and I thought I might loose her. But much to my delight she was alive this AM but she is so much smaller than the other six. I have separated her with her...
Greetings everyone. I'm in Atmore, Alabama. Directly above Pensacola immediately over the border. I've been moving awhile and finally settled here. I'm a longtime chicken lover and this is my third flock.

About rooster: Sweet little dude! He's a very good boy. Treats the girls well. He grew up with them. Very good sentry. He watches over them all the time. He doesn't...
I've got to reduce my flock and I've got ANOTHER rooster. That makes 4 roos I've had to re-home from my order of 16 last March. What lousy odds! Here's the deal. Take two egg laying hens (EE's)-free and the Roo (also EE). I'll meet you within 2 hours drive time. I'm in Payson. I can't have...
I’m very sad to hear this. It’s so frustrating to watch them die. For the future..I powder their hen house, nesting box and dust baths with diatomaceous earth. It’s a natural way to keep their digestive and respiratory systems healthy and controls mites. I powdered their oyster shells with...
Scratch isn’t the best nutrition for the hens. It’s ok in addition to the crumble but not as a main food source.
My birds only eat crumble. Sometimes the pellet food dehydrates them if they don’t drink enough water. I feed them oyster shells all the time for calcium. The crumble should be a...
I'm so sorry this is happening to your chicks. Its so frustrating. By the time you notice they are sick its almost too late. Coccidiosis is the most prevalent cause of mortality in chickens. Especially for chicks. I would proceed as if coccidiosis were the culprit. Without lab results its...
I separated my chick for two weeks while I treated her. She had one eye glued shut when she arrived and I was concerned about respiratory infection. I used warm water and gauze to open it and then applied Puralube Vet Ointment. It worked well. I also used triple antibiotic ointment. It...
When I was a little girl my grandmother always had chickens and at three or four I would help her spread the feed. I would chase them and hang out with them. Now this was in Oakland, CA in the 50's. Which was and is a very urban setting. We lived across the street from Lake Merritt. She...
I'm sad to report I lost my little Gracie last night. She was the smallest chick in my flock of 16. Failure to thrive? I don't know. The rest are growing like crazy and eating up a storm. My little Hazel is getting better. Her eye infection seems to be clearing up.
Any suggestions on...
Hello Chicken Coopers!
I'm so excited to be here. Love my little peeps! They are 4 weeks old and starting to get rambunctious. They want out of their garage pen. I have 10 hens. One is very small in comparison to the rest of the flock. And I have one with an eye infection. I've separated both...
