In colder climates using a 2x4 with the flat side up allows the chickens to have their feet covered to prevent frostbite when they roost. I am in North Carolina now and the cold is not really a concern. I use tree branches, they are free and let's face it chickens just don't care.
We have a similar sign for horses and have a rider on the insurance in case a horse were to cause an issue. That could be a person getting hurt or if say the horse wanders into the road and a car hits it. I doubt that sign will protect you from a lawsuit. You can ask here, but the only trust...
I put a dozen in my incubator 2 days ago so hatch day would be the day my wife's friend visits. Should be a neat surprise. It's just my barnyard mix rooster with buff orpingtons, blue saphire, and a bcmxpolish.
I am hell on wildlife that gets near my coop. I just started up chicken keeping again after a several years break. New house, new state, new coop, new varmints to get rid of. I already had one duel with a opossum that was in the tack room of the barn. Now that I have chickens I will be...
I had a roo that the hens about scalped and he made it. I used neosporin on the wound and my daughter hand fed him. It did not take him very long to rebound. Chickens are really tough in my experience.
My run use to be where my kids swingset was and has a foot of sand. It does get caked up from time to time, but I just rototill it a couple of times a year and all is good. I would not do metal in my coop either, I think there would be issues as some have already stated. The walls of my coop...
I have vinyl sheet flooring and painted walls. I just used the glue you are suppose to use for sheet vinyl and glued it to the plywood floor. Walls were painted with regular latex indoor paint to protest the 1/4" plywood I used for the walls inside. The paint was some pink left over from my...
Sure, but I would cover it with some type of flooring. I just used cheap 7/16" OSB and covered with sheet vinyl. My coop is 8 years old and it's still solid.
I highly doubt they are cold. Remember they are always wearing their down coat 24/7. You're in Texas, 20 degrees is nothing up here in Michigan and our chickens do just fine. I have never supplemented heat in my coop. The only thing that seems to bother my chickens is the snow, but I think...
I keep bottle rockets by the back door and shoot a couple off in their direction when I see them. No way could I hit them, but the noise is enough to get them to move on. Do this often enough and they will seek other place to hunt. It has worked pretty good for me so far. Illegal to shoot a...
