I recently got two poults that I am currently brooding with 10 cornish cross chicks, 5 Welsummer, and 5 Amercauna. I too was worried about the food issue, as the poults like a protein ratio of around 26-28%. Since I do have some meat birds along with them I offer both foods in my...
I agree now that I looked up the white broad breasted, that's what they are. Thanks. I will keep brooding them and then chicks together and buy a higher protein feed as well. I have just read several things talking about people loosing them in the brood process. I want to be successful at...
That's what's confusing me about they're breed, they do not have any brown striped for spots with they're yellow They are solid yellow with brown/bronze darker heads. Super cute. I will try and post a pic.
Thanks. Okay I get it with the higher protein. Right now there are only two of them so they are currently brooding with chickens. I don't know a way to feed them a game bird food without the little chicks getting into it as there are 19 of them. I guess I may have to brood them by themselves...
I got two NEW turkey yesterday at the feed store! I am so excited. They were listed as "Bronze". When I looked them up online the babies looked like the Bourbon reds as opposed to the Red Bronze pics I looked at. Anywho, this is my first year to try turkeys as I have stuck to chickens the...
Hi there,
I have raised meat bird for the past two years with my family. We did 12 last year and 25 this year. I too agree at what a strange bird to grow so incredibly fast. They are always hungry and will eat as much fun as they can at any opportunity. I think key is monitoring how much...
Yes I have read that is a back Backyard Poultry magazine before. Mot of my ladies have finished their molt, but that favorite Black australorp of mine still looks pitiful. Luckily she has new pin feathers showing all over, so she will be back to her big fluffy self in no time.
Welcome. I too am in Arkansas. Hot Springs to be exact. I have a mix of 20 ladies. We have black australorps, buff orpingtons, white leghorns, speckled sussex, and one Rhode Island red.
and as for the chicken opening her beak with each breath.......I think it depends how bad the crop is filled up. I had a Speckled Sussex this spring with the issue and her crop would fill up fast. She definitely would open her beak while breathing. I think it was due to how heavy and...
I would say this is very normal spots for molting, I too have all hens and they are going through various stages of molt. One morning one of my favorite Black Australorp looked like she had completely lost her tail feathers, and there they were, fallen underneath the roost at night. It's just...
Where in Arkansas are you located? I just got involved in this web sight and love all the information sharing. I am in Hot Springs and currently have a flock of 24 mix breeds that I ordered straight in about 8 weeks ago. Too much fun!
