    Noisy Hens- Advice Wanted!

Mine are extra noisy when I’m outside. They’re either expecting a treat, or they want out of the run. Either way, as soon as I disappear, they quiet down. Might I suggest giving them a treat to distract for a minute? Seems to work here... and also, your backyard/coop area is lovely!

My guess is a soft shell egg?

Thanks guys! You’ve been very helpful. I remember when my first birds began laying they had super thin shells, weird shaped eggs etc. but I’ve never ran into this funk!

Is Goopy a Cockeral or a Pullet?

Pullet. Comb and feathers look exactly like mine.

    Chicken Advocate

My city began allowing chickens (no Roos) in 2014. Many who were interested began keeping chickens (as I did in 2015) right away. This spring we had a HUGE run on all things chicken related here due to COVID... same with gardening materials (I feel lucky I bought everything I needed in...

My guess is a soft shell egg?

The lump is hard but not cartilage-hard. The top part looks like cooked ground turkey? Best I can describe...

My guess is a soft shell egg?

Thank you for your help. I do still have it... I’m the curious type so I did want to poke at it but I jumped on here first. This might sound like a really silly question, maybe, but wondered if its possible an egg can get squished inside if, say, my chicken loving child squeezed her too hard...

Concrete Floor in Run - best type of bedding?

Well so far, because my run is covered, only the sides seemed to hold any kind of moisture. I made sure to go in and expose any super wet spots so they could dry easily. I suppose we’ll see what the winter brings, but so far its all good.

Concrete Floor in Run - best type of bedding?

I am new to this scenario as well. After much research, I went with pellets used in horse stalls/kitty litter. It broke down quickly into teeny particles during the rainy spring, but so far so good! I have a 10’x6’ concrete run and I layered it about 3-4’’. I rake the top layer and get rid of as...

New member but not new to BYC or chickens in general

Hello! I have been a chicken momma for just over 5 years. I started with a flock of 4 (per city regulations), lost one last summer due to unknown circumstances, and have just added 5 more for a total of 8 (yep- well aware of the aforementioned city regulations... but honestly, 4 hens do not...

My guess is a soft shell egg?

Hi. I’m thinking this is the result of a soft shell egg (I have new layers) that most likely came from a newbie that has given me 2 double-yolked eggs so far. I know laying in the beginning can be wonky. I’ve done research and I don’t feel this matches a lash egg as from what I’ve read, lash...
