This is guy/girl is a little over 6 weeks old from Meyer Hatchery. It was my “meal maker” so it’s supposed to be a free pullet, any breed is possible. I’m guessing they gave me a roo AGAIN! I was thinking it might be a Blue Andalusian but I’m unfamiliar with the breed. So 2 questions…is it a...
Thank you and you’re very welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed the photo. He was supposed to be a Salmon Faverolle from Meyer Hatchery but ended up being a Green Queen. He’s a sweet boy.
The white rooster in the pictures was sadly dumped off at my house last night/this morning sometime. He seems docile enough that I’ll try to keep him for now and see how it goes. Can anyone guess an approximate age (I’m guessing a year or 2 as his spurs are slightly bigger and pointier than my 1...
You guys have already helped my sex the other 3 in the hatch but these 3 are still in question. (3rd and 4th picture is the same chick) Any thoughts? They’re 5 weeks old and barnyard mixes. Thanks for any input!
I hatched off these little barnyard mixes, now 5 weeks old, and I’m thinking these 3 are little boys. The combs seem awful red and big for only 5 weeks old but I’m still fairly new to this. What do you think?
The chick is now 5 weeks old and appears to have some lacing on his/her chest. I’m kind of wondering about a SLW & Columbian Wyandotte cross because of the white feathering and the dark neck feathers coming in. I am very new to this so very unsure of my guess!
You are right about that. I’ve had some change so much that you’d never guess it’s the same chicken! I wish I knew the breeds she had so I could better judge. I’m sure you’re right, it’s most likely a barnyard mix. I gave her a light Brahma rooster several months back but she already had 2 or 3...
I had a broody hen hatch a single chick. I got the egg from a girl selling eggs who didn’t know much about what breeds she actually had. I’m thinking it looks SLW-ish but I’m still pretty new to all of this. What does everyone think? I’m sure it could be a barnyard mix too. TIA
Thank you! I’m so appreciative of all the knowledge I’m gaining from this group. Your answer is so thorough and gives me a better understanding. While it’s hard to say what egg colors I’ll get, it’s interesting learning how it all works.
