I have a brooding hen that has been laying on her eggs for 3 days now. She got up to eat this morning so i was able to see that she has 3 eggs. My question is how do i know if they are fertile? Should i take a flashlight to them and check when she is out?
I have had more problems baking the shells to give the chickens than just crushing them, waiting a few days for them to dry, them giving it to them. Baking the shells takes out all the "good" stuff they need (and the reason you are doing it in the first place)

I just gave my girls the eggshells that we have been saving. I just crushed them up with cracked corn, broccoli, and meal worms for an added treat. One of my girls grabbed a piece of shell, dropped it, shook her head and left it lol so we will see what happens lol

Thats going to be a problem... My girls can't fly and cant get on the perches i put in there. They don't even go into the nesting boxes so the only place i can look would be the floor but that has DTearth on it.
