I'm going to echo a previous poster and recommend Myshire Farms. Look them up on youtube. Zack has some really great videos. If you order through ebay, you can often find Myshire offering free shipping.
Some wouldn't agree with me here so if you follow my advice, know it's controversial. A lot of times they'll pip then take quite some time to absorb the yolk. What I do if I'm unsure if the chick is ok, AND it's been at least 24 hours since pip, is hold the fat end up to my ear and listen. If...
I got some beautiful birds that I hatched from my flock 3 weeks ago. Im having a hard time figuring out where all these colors came from. What are the hidden genes here? My male is GPC. My females are Italian (1), autumn amber(1) pharoah (2), Barred Rosetta (1) and one that looks like a Pharoah...
Genetics are wonderful, aren't they? Dad to all of them is German Pastel. Moms are 2 Pharoah, 2 Italian, 1 that is similar to a Pharoah but the color is off and 1 that I don't know for sure her color type.
I am completely blown away by the beauty of my most recent (staggered) hatch! They range in age from a week to 18 days so they aren't fully feathered yet but...wow! They're gorgeous!
I posted before about getting a white egg and was told it was basically an egg that "skipped the painting booth". I've managed to determine that it's one of my Italians laying them. She's only laying about 3 times a week but every egg she lays is white. I collected again this morning (after 2...
This was a start to finish egg. I put 5 in initially. 3 were early quitters and one was unfortunately deformed and didn't make it. I have a dozen that hatched in an incubator 2 days ago so this little one will go in with them today. It did hatch 4 days late though, likely because of the slightly...
Also, if it would be helpful, I can take pictures of the development of my eggs. Mine are coturnix but you can compare stage oof development rather than day of development. For example, I have 5 that are starting day 17, which is typical hatch day, 2 on day 16, then others that range from day 9-13.
Would it be possible for you to take pictures from the air cell end? It can be hard to tell from the side when they're farther along. Those pictures don't look like viable eggs to me but it could just be positioning.
If I were you, I would stop turning them. Recent studies have shown that even eggs that were not turned at all during incubation still have approximately a 65% hatch rate. However, continuing to turn once they are getting close to hatch can result in the chicks being malpositioned and dying in...
