Thank you Eggcessive. Yes, she and all my new chicks were vaccinated at birth. I don't know about her stools yet because I just got her isolated from the 7 other chicks, but I cleaned their coop and there didn't appear to be any droppings that were unusual or bloody. She can move both legs, and...
I have a 6 week old pullet who suddenly seems to be listing to one side. I've looked closely at her legs and feet and they don't appear to be injured. She's obviously in distress though. Any ideas? I've quarantined her into her own crate with food and water, but she's just laying there. any help...
Well, it's stumped me, but I am inexperienced so I am not a good source for information. Good luck. Keep us posted. I hope it's just some kind of natural "break" on their part. I'm worried about one of my hens today. She isn't acting normal at all. Gotta do some research on this site and see if...
I agree with apps. If you have a (or multiple) chicken snakes, they wouldn't leave any trace because they swallow the eggs whole. Try putting out the store bought eggs - as an added bonus, if it isn't a thief, maybe it will prompt the hens to lay again! If not, and it disappears, you will know...
Crickett,
This is very strange - ALL of them stopped at the same time and still aren't laying? Are you absolutely sure you don't have a thief out there? I assume you are feeding them layer feed and oyster shell, right? It seems like there must be something environmental or else having to do...
Weird, my 4 pullets have been laying for just a few months, finally all laying an egg daily starting just last week. Today, none of them layed an egg. It was "chilly" this morning at about 49 degrees, but it got up to high 70's today and has been sunny all day. They all look and sound fine, but...
My black Australorp is way bigger than my other 3 hens (1 Leghorn 2 RIRs). She gives great brown eggs with strong shells. Once in a while she'll lay a huge, double yoke one! She's so pretty and much calmer than the other hens.
I agree. I used play sand and they loved it. In the heat they like so burrow down in it and kick it up on their wings and feathers. I used it in the coop on the flooring and it made it easy to clean up. Not using it now, but did like when I did use it.
wow, thanks - didn't know about Pdz - great tip! I'll use for both chickens and my goats. After rain it can get a little overpowering in their inside stall.... this will really be a help.
Because they are so entertaining to watch. They have such personalities and each one is different. The eggs are a bonus to having fun pets. They entertain my 2 goats, too!
