I'm having a hard time getting the plug out of my hen's foot as well. I will get some Epsom salts and try the soaking, and the wet to dry bandage. I'm getting really good at wrapping a chicken's food in vet wrap, thanks to this Youtube video:

I have a friend who give me her back issues of Mary Janes Farm, and I love it for it's organic/green bend, but what I don't like is how much it reminds me of Martha Stewart. She's got her own line of products and fabric....it's way to commercialized. I mean really, who needs a $47 clothes pin...

Here's my blog post on the coop we started last Saturday. We are wondering what's the best way to construct the chicken door, so that we can open, shut and lock it without having to enter or remove the run.
I'd...
Ok thanks for looking at my pictures! I had three that were like the picture you posted and we had to put them down. I feel much better about the ones I posted pictures of, their cords are shrinking and drying out and look much better than they did yesterday.
You guys are wonderful resource...
I had a difficult hatch and helped a few pop out, and three of them have a blob at the umbilical cord spot. They are walking around, acting normal, and there is no bleeding. Here are some pictures.... Do you think they will survive and are there any treatment I should give at this point...

Thanks to both of you for your kind words! My neighbor's dog is "inside" an "invisible fence" and I suspect the batteries in the color ran out. I don't see him outside his yard often, but they should keep a better eye on that battery! But to make a long story short, no they aren't doing...
Our neighbor's dog ate several of my chickens, so I have them confined to the coops now. The problem with this coop in the picture is that too feed them, you end of letting them out. So, we attached our Dog Pen coop to this one. We made a little "tunnel" out of wire and now they can walk into...

Well I did replace the door with a solid piece of treated plywood. It keeps their area dryer and shaded, so I like it much better than the screen door.
....and probably ate one of my chickens. We never found her, but we have a bird missing and a pile of feathers. So, does anyone have any suggestions? My leghorns are small enough they can jump my chain link fence. Now I don't have any proof that the neighbor's pit bull got my hen but he's...
I'm enjoying Simply in Season, which I bought from my CSA. It's organized by season, and is colorfully organized. It's easy to flip threw and see what vegetables are used.

Why would you want a dinosaur anyway? I mean chickens are so much easier to have running around the back yard.....
I guess you could try this, if your kids have a science project...
