Sorry, 9 weeks today. I think bantam mix. Not sure, they are barnyard mixes and I did have a bantam, sadly she got taken by a hawk.
9 weeks today

i hope not
Just figured I would give an update..
We are over two weeks in and the little guy/gal is doing fine. He seems to be keeping up with the others in size now and moves around the brooder with much more confidence.
We are still unsure about how his/her life will play out, but at this point we are...
I have a blind 5 day old chick at the moment.
Here’s my experience so far,
I didn’t realize he was blind until about day 3. He (idk the sex but whatever lol) was at that point a tad smaller than I thought he should be, but I think it’s because it took him about that long to orient himself in...
Thank you, I picked up some nutri-drench this morning. He/she seems to do fine finding the food and water. Hoping the extra vitamins help it to stay healthy.
I guess we are going to take it one day at a time. I was looking at small coops last night, hubby might be irritated that I buy a whole...
Hey everyone!
I hatched out my first incubator babies. They are 4 days old today. Yesterday I realized that one is blind, at least partially. I believe it might be able to see shadows maybe, but not sure.
It seems like an otherwise healthy bird, just can’t see. It has managed to learn where...
Ooh I forgot to put that in my post. I tried to put some Vetericyn Plus Ophthalmic gel on its eyes and it flipped out and started scratching at one of its eyes until it bled. I'm afraid some got actually in the eye. It's been fine now and isn't scratching at it in the past few hours. It scared...
So about a year ago we had a case of Fowl Pox run through our flock, no big deal, everyone made it out just fine. Fast forward to now, we had a hen hatch 4 eggs. 2 weeks in I started noticing signs of fowl pox on 2 of the babies and one adult who never showed symptoms during the last outbreak...
We have a first-time hatch going on at the moment and our momma ate half of a shell (I'm assuming because it wasn't there when I checked on the hatching process lol)
She is eating and drinking. I keep food in the laying box with her and I see her getting water (also see the tell tale giant poops near the waterer). I will check her mouth tomorrow for gunk or lesions. At this point I’m fairly certain the hen will pull through. What is most pressing to me is...
A week ago this particular hen was displaying very minor/no symptoms. Over the week they have gotten worse. The other hen that has it is still dry. My guess is because she is broody, her immune system is down and cannot fight it as well as the other. My older hen has no symptoms at all, she may...
So about a week ago I posted that I noticed one of my hens has dry pox. Since then my broody developed dry pox which has now turned into wet, open lesion on eye lid and one on her cheek area. She has a clutch of eggs that are due to hatch in less than a week. What do I do? I’ve read that pox can...
