I picked her up yesterday. this just started yesterday. this is my first year with turkeys and i tend to look at them more than i do the chickens just because i know they can be different. i saw nothing on him that would say bugs. but there are quills starting that you can see on her...

turkey skin issues - picture- is this mites? or something else

still hanging his wings today. doesnt appear to be itching as much. used diluted sevin in a spray bottle and wiped him down last night. sprayed the run (it is like a chicken tractor) and gave them a dust bathing area. anyone have any suggestions to anything else or what this is.

turkey skin issues - picture- is this mites? or something else

this isnt the greatest picture. but one of my turkeys is hanging her wings low (like she is hot and fanning herself, but it isnt hot) and she is itching her skin on the top of both wings (not the wing itself, but by the wing where it connects to her body). no open sores , but no feathers...

    egg with no shell??

i have a chicken that has started laying eggs with no shell. two weeks ago , i noticed the insides of the egg in the coup near the nest boxes. no shell or evidence of a shell. and no real yolk , just the white part of the egg. today, i see the actual egg with a paper thin (thick enough...

    Will chickens eat hedge apples?

thanks for the info. i was wondering this as my neighbors horses eat them as do the squirrels. i was hoping the chickens would eat them to get rid of them.

    odd dog behavior

like someone already said, she probably was punished by previous owners for doing this type of thing. probably more than she should of. i would keep that in mind for the next time this might happen and not punish her. this is somthing that just happens (throwing up) and cant really be...

    Snapping turtles

snapping turtle season isnt until the late summer...you are in new york so i am not sure when your season is, but i am sure it is around them...that is when they are done with their egg laying. if you have a few, you might ask around and see if you can find someone that would like to catch...

    Sigh.. :(

i think if it was a pack of animals, you would have more activity and poop. i have cattle wire under the coop. i still can move it but it does make it just a little harder as it drags. but would be fine if you can prop it up a little off the ground.

    Is this a copperhead?

yup watersnake. we have them here. we have quite a few smaller ones, but had to get rid of the larger one. he was too big and freaking out the kids and the dog. i am not one to just kill something to kill it, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. moving it was not an option.

    Predator balance

if you are trapping and catching in your yard, you are getting those that would be around you anyway. i dont think you are necessarily bringing more in unless newbies come to spread out into the newly unoccupied territory. think of it as keeping the population down so as not to get too many...
