So my Ameraucana STILL hasnt laid an egg since her broody episode. Its been over 4 weeks now. Acting normal, no mites, eating drinking fine. Should I be concerned?
How funny I just had the same exact experience with my young Ameraucauna. I just put her in a separate area of my run where she couldn't get to the nest for 1 day and she quit. But she hasn't laid for over a week now so I was worried and posted about it.
Would love to hatch babies but not possible where I live :( I thought it odd though that I only had to separate her 1 day from the nest to cure her from sitting in the nest?
I have an ameraucana who was sitting all day on the nest and I kept having to push her out to get eggs so then she would pull down an egg from the nest to sit on it in the coop, poor thing. This went on for several days so I am assuming she was broody? Shes not even 1 year old yet and this is...

Best purchase I ever made! I like things stupid simple lol
Of course I go fishing for a couple days and I get my first eggs when Im gone! Still very exciting to come home to the cutest little eggs ever. I have 6, hens and since my eggs are white, I know at least one of my leghorns is laying. I have 2 leghorns. The others will lay brown, blue and green...
I too am in your same boat anxiously awaiting my first egg! My girls were born Feb 2. I have 2 leghorns 1 Australorp, 1 buff orpington, 1 ameraucana and 1 easter egger. All are squatting for me except my orpington so I am hoping any day now :)
My girls are only 12 weeks old but when they start laying and I switch them to layer feed should I also provide oyster shell on the side? I believe layer feed has calcium in it so just want to make sure. Thanks
I have 2 Australorps
2 Buff Orpingrons
2 White Leghorns
1 Easter Egger and
1 ameraucana
The only one that seems a bit aggressive is one of my Australorps. That is a great idea sending the more aggressive since it may knock them down a bit. He chickens free range so plenty of room. I spend...
I have 8 6 week old pullets and it is already very oblivious who is lowest on pecking order. I have a buff orpington who in the brooder already got her tail feathers picked bloody twice. Peck no more worked great for that and it hasnt happened again since they are now in the coop. All 7 others...
