The first vet said that it appears the at the hock joint the tibia and femur are not connected. The space in between them is infected. The vet said without x rays to be sure it will be difficult to know exactly what is wrong. He has his second opinion tomorrow.
I took him to the vet today and the prognosis is bleak. The bones that are supposed to connect at the hock joint are no longer connected, infection is setting in, and hes in pain. The vet said that we could spend thousands of dollars in surgery, but there is no guarentee that it would help...
I have the go ahead to take him to the vet on Monday! They were surprised when I offered to take him in for them. They were not able to get an appointment with their regular vet soon enough. He is eating and trying to use his leg but to no avail. They have been putting him in a small tub of...
I did some manipulations on him and he has full range of motion. He can pick the leg up but that is all. I found an avian vet that i can take it to on Monday, but I want to get their permission. I tried to locate the tendon, but could not feel anything. Not sure if i did it correctly. I am...
Thank you. I sent the photos to my vet this morning and am awaiting her advice. She does not work on birds though. I have tried to contact the only avian vet in my area but no one is retuning my calls. The other challenge is that this gosling is not mine, but I feel the need to help. I have...
So I went over t the barn a bit ago and here is a picture of how his hock joint looks. Swollen and possible infected? I could not feel a tendon out of place on either leg, but maybe I did not do it right. He acts much better when being held and there is no pressure on his leg. It's leg has...
wow! That's great! i am going to try it when i go to the barn today. Thank you so much. The gosling has been outdoors and eating grass, but I have chopped up some , greens, carrots, cabbage, and strawberry tops for some sweetness. With the goose i used to have, as a gosling i also added...
thank you. It appears as if it'sentire leg turns inward starting with the femur, then the thigh joint, and tibia. It's shank goes directly under it's body and faces it opposite leg. It can't walk. I am wondering if putting it in a tub with some warm water to take the pressure off the leg and...
Thank you. Since it is not mine I do not want to overstep, but the Mother has nothing to do with it and neither do the other geese. It's the only gosling on the property. I am heading there tomorrow to help. I am going to make an ortapedic chir for it to see it it helps. I have also mixed...
do you think it is a twisted tibia? I can not find anything that even looks like this. Everything I have found has the leg rotated outward or both legs are spraddled. Thank you I will check those out.
Was at the barn where I board my horse. This Toulouse gosling is about a week and a half. Its poor leg is turned in and the back part of the knee joint is a bit swollen. It can't walk, but is eating, drinking and being quite chipper despite it's leg. It can only kind of drag itself. It...
