New chicks... No idea which chickens are the parents

I forgot to mention all the eggs they hatched from were brown--no dark brown (we did put an egg from our cuckoo marans under the hen, but it was a bad egg).

New chicks... No idea which chickens are the parents

Thanks for your reply! I do have a Welsummer pullet as well, but she wasn't laying yet when we collected these eggs. Our Welsummer cockerel could be the father for sure though. He's on the top of my list for suspects. In fact, we're 99% sure he fathered our 4 week old cockerel (we know his...

New chicks... No idea which chickens are the parents

Oh... if it helps, while my BCM does have feathered legs, my Birchen does not. I know it's a bit of a no-no, but he has clean legs.

New chicks... No idea which chickens are the parents

I have three new chicks. They're only a week old, so probably way too soon to tell what they are, but I'm anxious to see if anyone might have any ideas. I have a very diverse flock. I could tell you which are the possible fathers, but I have so many different pullets. I know some are laying for...

Our first chick hatched. RIR mother, but not sure which rooster is the father. Help?

Um, can you say cockerel? Pretty sure that's what this guy is. Here he is 4 1/2 weeks old and already all feathered out. Here are some of his feathers. Just please ignore the mess in the background... I have four small children.

Our first chick hatched. RIR mother, but not sure which rooster is the father. Help?

Thanks everyone! Sorry, I haven't been on in a while and missed your comments. My apologies. This chick is feathering out quickly. That is a trait of the mother (RIR) though, yes? The comb is single and is actually pretty good sized already, just like my Welsummer had been as a chick (I...

Our first chick hatched. RIR mother, but not sure which rooster is the father. Help?

Those were my thoughts as well, hdowden Pele, we actually haven't figured out if our Welsummer or our Polish is the dominate one. The little EE would like to think he is. lol... He was separated at first with a group of younger chickens and I think he is the dominate one over the two Marans...

Our first chick hatched. RIR mother, but not sure which rooster is the father. Help?

Oh, and if it helps at all, my sister said the eyes are a blue color.

Our first chick hatched. RIR mother, but not sure which rooster is the father. Help?

So we gave my sister a couple of eggs that were still warm to put under her broody hen (we don't have any broody hens yet). Yesterday she called to tell us one hatched! We know the mother is one of three of our RIRs because they were the only ones laying at the time this egg was gathered. It may...

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

So her backside is pretty bald due to an Easter Egger cockerel we have (he's so terrible about that!). Is that proof Cora is in fact a hatchery quality pullet or will roosters sometimes "mate" other roosters?

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

NovaAman, I am leaning more toward pullet as well, but just had a few minor doubts. Thanks for your help everyone! For now I won't change her name and just keep assuming she is a girl unless she without a doubt proves otherwise. keesmom, I didn't know that about the blue Polish. Thank you! I...

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

No problem! Yeah, so far in my short experience, I have found the hatcheries to be unreliable. My Blue Polish, for one example, is not really blue colored. I think he's actually a splash.

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

Yeah, the tail really makes me question as well. Also, her/his behavior lately. The store we got most of our chickens from is called Wilco. They're a farm store. I don't know the name(s) of the hatchery/hatcheries they work with. I wouldn't mind a rooster because they are beautiful and I've...

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

The comb is a lighter pink, not as dark as my older birds that are roosters (they are different breeds). It's not an EE though. The legs are feathered and the very light color that Salmon Faverolles and like Speckled Sussex and such have. Also, she/he has 5 toes. Quite small too.

    Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

Hi everyone. We got a Salmon Faverolle pullet, Cora, through a local store from a hatchery back in the beginning of May (she's approximately 11 weeks old now). She has been walking around all extended like our roosters do and her coloring is kind of dark, which makes me question if she is really...
