    Can anyone confirm my suspicions

I’m 99% sure this baby of mine is a roo. I had other hen chicks I was going to rehome, but I already have one adult roo in the adult pen. If this little one is a roo as well I’ll need to change my rehoming plans in order to have enough hens for two roos. Any ideas? It’s a 6-7 week old White...

    I don’t think I can do it!

I’m in NH, USA and I’m lucky to have a processor in the next town over. I haven’t processed any birds yet because mine are primarily egg layers which I will process for stewing hens when they’re done laying. I thought the same thing as you about not being able to do it emotionally, but it helps...

    What breed is this?

I did notice that while googling. The posts that mentioned Black Rock were all U.K. based and very adamant that a BlackRock is a blend to RI Red over Barred Rock. The US posts called them black sex links but with the same parentage. Live and learn they say. I’m excited she’s a pretty girl, and...

    What breed is this?

Interestingly, I just googled it and the Black Rock chick looks almost exactly like my girl did at a few days old. I googled a little further and the parentage for both Black Rock chickens and Black Sex Link is the same (RI Red Cock/Barred Rock Hen). Maybe I should have been a bit more patient...

    What breed is this?

So I lost two chickens this spring. Chicken math, I obviously needed 14 more... This chick was sold as a black sex link, but I already have two black sex links that look nothing like this. As a chick it was black with a brown face, so I think that rules out Wyandotte. After all the googling, I’m...

Some newbie questions about gender identification

Jed maybe you can define the difference for me? I’m getting conflicting reports everywhere I ask, including google, but as I said earlier I ordered specifically Ameraucana and was assured that’s what I would receive. Many are saying I’ve got Easter Eggers specifically because I didn’t go...

Some newbie questions about gender identification

Perfect, then it is a Black Star/sex link and I shouldn’t have worried about it being a boy at all. I have 2 Australorp too, but somewhere along the line got confused as to which coloring was which bird. Good thing I never had twin children

Some newbie questions about gender identification

Oh! Well that makes sense, the black one is either a Black Star or an Australorp. I have 2 each of those as well as 2 each of NH Reds, Buff Orpingtons and Ameraucanas. I feel better hearing that, thanks!

Some newbie questions about gender identification

What is the difference between Ameraucana and Easter Egger? I thought one was an actual breed and the other was a mix. I know I ordered (and paid extra) for Ameraucana’s, but you’re not the first to tell me that’s not what I have.

Some newbie questions about gender identification

Hi all, I’m sorry to post some possible rudimentary questions, but google is killing me with all the possibilities and what if’s. I have 10 eight week old chicks bought as pullets from the local feed store. I realize there is a chance I’ll have at least one roo, but I’m noticing at least half...

Introducing chicks to a flock of 2

How did it go? I have 10 three week old chicks that have been in a brooder indoors until my coop arrived, and my husband just brought it home today complete with a single laying hen. I’m concerned about introducing them and also concerned about leaving her alone until the chicks are ready to go out.

    Hello

Hi all, super new chick owner here, with a small flock of 10 ten day old chicks! We have 2 each of Black Australorp, Black Sex Link, NH Red, Buff Orpington and Ameraucana and have enjoyed watching them grow and change so quickly! I’ve been checking in with this site as I prepared for chick...
