I am going to throw a wrench into this and complicate things! I hatched 11 brahmas and kept six and sold five. I chose which ones to keep by the feather development ie long tail and wing feathers. I ended up keeping mostly males and only a few girls!!! Brahmas are soo hard to sex. I think it's...
thanks for your input everyone. I will let you know, Id still like some more replies too. The reason I'm asking is this chick is a lot bigger than the rest, the dark feathers coming in arounds its neck are further down its back than the rest, and if you look at the first picture or click on it...
~~Thanks! that's my German Shepherd Eva, she's 5. and that's my fluffy, a buff Orpington when she was 3 weeks or so. She's the one who went broody for me and hatched the Brahma babies! Im getting my husband to expand the coop this year too lol this never ends does it...
Thank you! the friendliest of the bunch is the biggest buff, shes hilarious and very very snuggly. I picked these out of 11 that my Orpington "fluffy" hatched so I am praying that they are girls! fingers crossed for both of us!
thank you livininbrazil! its not the lighting, they are quite dark. The pictures actually wash all of them out. Thank you for your kind and non judgemental comments! I will love them to matter what they turn out like! as long as they aren't roos lol
Here are my backyard babies!!! My 8 month old buff Orpington went broody so I bought her some eggs. I kept six out of the eleven. I hope I chose well!! If anyone wants to weigh in with gender guesses please do! They are 3 weeks on Wednesday. The others I found homes for had no tails, no shoulder...
From my experience with Brahmas, pullets feather out faster. I would say the ones with the least feathers and no tails are the boys! You can also sex dark brahmas by their wing feather colours. The pullets have penciling and the boys are dark/black. Hope this helps
