I was born and raised (for the most part) in central and eastern Texas. When I was a very young child, we lived with my Grandmother for a number of years, and I was responsible for gathering the eggs and feeding her chickens, geese, and ducks... and helping pluck feathers when culling time came.
My husband, daughter, and I purchased our first home on Valentines Day this year, and shortly afterwards, one of my dear sisters gifted my 4 year old daughter with 3 roosters and 3 hens (cross between Light Brahma and Barred Rock). I had intended to eventually have chickens again (like in a year or two), but seeing as my sister was willing to GIVE these to us, my plan was fast tracked.
Throughout my online inquiries into how-to's for setting up an appropriate abode for my chooks, (I've really come to love that word for some reason), Backyard Chickens was almost always the place I found the most helpful information. So, after an unfortunate invasion of a migrating Red Hawk, I decided it was finally time to join you fine folk. Thanks for having me!
