    My hens just started laying. One is laying good size eggs, the others are kind of small. Also only getting 2 eggs total a day from 5 hens. Is this fairly normal or should I be doing something to increase size and/or production?

    CX is the way to go. We got 5 for a 4H project and they were all over 5 pounds at 7 weeks. We kept them for an additional week in order to accommodate the time line for a butchering party and i cut back their feed to once a day, otherwise we would have butchered at 7 weeks and saved about 20...

    Even if i can't find free pallets, the feed store sells them for 1.50 each, and you can use them for a lot of projects.

    I traded some stuff for about 50 pallets and am using the wood. Framed in a small entrance and closed in the front with the repurposed pallet boards.

    Used an old shower curtain rod for a perch. I think I'm going to end up lowering this or eliminating it because the crate isn't deep enough for the hens to hop up on it.

    A local factory sells these crates for $2 each. I cut a 4 x 4 post into 24" sections to use as legs and set it on concrete blocks.

    I have 7 RIR and 3 Plymouth Rock pullets. Took them out in the yard today and one of the rocks just lays down and won't move. Any ideas on what the problem might be?
