Why would you say you're living in Montana now? You seemed to know quite a bit about the town too. You must move around a lot, which would be VERY expensive with all your livestock. Most people with ranches don't just up and leave every few months.

I'd just give them a little time. You could try throwing a handful or feed out in the sunlight and see if you can get them to go out. It seems like usually (my chickens at least) bask in the sun early in the morning, then at noon they spread out to run around, then about 2 hours before dark...
I don't know where you're at, but if it's hot they'll stay in the shade to keep cool. It might just take them awhile to adjust too. Eventually they'll figure it out.
