Good morning all,
Punchline: I have one 2 or 3 year old hen in the process of growing her feathers back after molting that now needs to integrate with my 11 hen mixed age/breed flock.
Back story: I took in 2 hens yesterday from a friend who needed to rehome her hens. They arrived yesterday...
Bif sounded the alarm tonight. After a quick looky-loo, I found one possum in the nesting box and another in the run.....the flashlight on my cell phone stunned them....boarded up the nesting box so that one couldn't escape...boarded off the main entrance so the other wouldn't come...
Thank you! The side by side coop shares about 12 feet of the other coop.....4 feet is wired but had a newly installed sheet of clear PVC sheeting (standing vertically) and the rest is wired. There is an opening between the two coops as one is winterized and the other (where the babies are) is...
Wow! I have soooooooo much to learn! I just put the babies to bed in their large dog crate (filled with shavings and topped with straw) and attached their new feeder/waterers so they will be fine until I get up tomorrow..... We are expecting a storm tonight, so I wanted them tucked safely...
Hello! What do you call these two cuties? I looked up Caramel Queens here, but only saw Cinnamon Queens....are they the same?
Today 2 new babies came home! They are Caramel Queens that originated from True North Farms nearby in Langley......I got them in exchange for a mix up on 2 RIR I...
My little coop is in Ladner our near Tilbury.
As of today, I have 3 older ex bat Isa Brown gals (about 2 yrs old), 1 RIR who is about 19 weeks, and 2 wee Caramel Queens 5 weeks old.
So good news for me......the woman who sold them to me as hens will exchange them for 2 caramel queens........that are 5 weeks old.
I do have another small coop/run that is near the other girls.....how old should they be before they join the big girls? Thank you!!!
Thank you! Not that I am happy........I got them 4 weeks ago (thought it was only 3....but it's 4) and the woman said she was "sure" they were all hens......it became apparent about 2 weeks ago.
So do I keep one or re-home both?? Would love some advice....I am new to this......
Thanks!
I have a small back yard flock. When I am home, all the gals get to be out and about....and that usually means they are hanging with me out the back while I do crafty projects and they just...well, be chickens....When they are coop-ed up, they have a three story enclosure (old kids fort turned...
