    Broody hens

Can broodyness happen even though there is no interaction with a rooster?

    Broody hens

Can someone tell me what a "Broody" hen is and is it a behavior that will stop a hen from laying? Will it stop?

    Gen not laying

We have 3 hens. An Ameraucana, a RIR and a Red Sex-Link. The Ameraucana quit laying almost a month ago when her coop mate got egg bound and ended up dying. We got the other 2 as they were beginning to lay and have been getting a few small brown eggs. My question is why would the Ameraucana quit...

    Sick hen we think

We took her to the vet and she is no longer with us. It was an egg but it was stuck up around a corner from the vent opening and could not be removed without surgery. She was so weak by that time that she would not have survived and we could not see spending that much money anyway. Hope that...

    Sick hen we think

We do not believe she is over 2. Maybe a little over 1. We did check her and this is what we found. Right at the entrance of the vent there seems to be a large mass just inside. It is about egg size. It seems to be attached to the inside wall. It did not dislodge so I don't think we made any...

    Sick hen we think

If she is egg bound and we find an egg in the vent, will we be able to get it out?

    Sick hen we think

One of our hens we believe is sick. She is hunched over and her tail feathers drag on the ground. She seems to be eating well but this posture issue is new. Her sister does not have this problem and displays the proper posture. Any ideas?

    Chicken run

We are having a problem with one of our hens. She is bent over and her tail feathers drag on the ground while her sister stands upright with the tail up. This is something new. Any ideas?

    Chicken run

We just finished our coop and we plan on getting 3 hens for eggs. Just about everything I've read it is recommended we have a run for them as well. I know chickens can fly at least a little so my question is, how tall does the run fence need to be to keep the chickens in it?
