Still wondering about food/water inside coop. At this moment we do NOT plan to have either food or water kept inside the coop. We will keep the auto door in place so birds will go in at night, door will close automatically and then open again at daylight so they can enter the run. Plan would be...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I’m attaching some pics on how I created the folding legs The wall side is simply 6” long lag screws that you can buy at Home Depot (not pictured). About 3” of the shaft is smooth. I just drilled through the 2x4 into the wall at each end, and scabbed a few...

Ok Penpal, thanks for that advice, and today I remade the roost bars. Back row is 12” from back wall and there is 17” between each roost bar. I had to give up one row entirely, but each bar is 5 feet long, so I still have 20 linear feet of roosting space. The roost height (it’s 30”) is about a...

2 questions for the group … 1) We are planning to NOT have food or water in the coop itself. Summer water is the passive/rain barrel fed cup system, and winter would be a hot plate and insulated bucket type water system out in the predator protected run. Food would be out there also. There is...

Thought I’d add a few pics as I had maxed out the number I could upload in the original post: Pics of roof structure I built to protect the exhaust fan Pics of the predator screens Pics of the automatic watering system Pics of the gutter fed water refill piping. This allows my wife and daughter...

Thanks Penpal. I can modify these pretty quick. The roost bars are seperated by 12” now so I’ll need to add 6” between each. I’ve heard conflicting info on roost bars being at same height or staggered. What’s the rational for keeping them all at same height? Thanks again!

The Red Heaven Chicken Spa & Resort My wife advised me that we would be getting chickens to add to the busy horse ranch we already run (https://redheavenranch.com/). My daughter is the ranch caretaker and if you have horses you know they are a 24/7 animal. After letting her know that we didn’t...
