I have a chicken who is about 18 months old and she will not put any weight on one of her legs. She was totally fine, running around the yard and when I went to close the coop door the other night, she was sitting on the floor of the coop. I went and picked her up and she would not put any...
Just thought I would give an update on our 'laying' situation. We were having trouble getting our new girls to lay in the nesting boxes. Instead, they were laying all over the yard - it was interesting. We decided to install 3 more nesting boxes and we left all the girls in the coop until at...
Thanks Debby! This morning when we went out there was a red and a leghorn in the same nesting box, both trying to lay. The leghorns are not super kind to our reds and we think they may not be letting them into the boxes. We are going to try adding two more boxes to the coop today to see if...
This has probably already been addressed on this forum somewhere, but I have a question about free ranging and laying eggs in the nesting box. We have 5 leghorns that are a year old. We have let them free range for quite some time now and they always go into the coop to lay their eggs in the...
These birds are so pretty and full of personality. We have owned 5 leghorns for over a year now and I love them so this year we decided to get 5 more and we went with RSL's. They are now 16 weeks old and two of them have starting laying!! Here are a couple of pics!
.
We have 5 Red Sex Links who are now 16 weeks old. We got our first egg when they were 15 weeks 5 days and today we got two little brown eggs in the nesting box!! It is very exciting. Can't wait till they all start laying! We also have 5 year old leghorns. Here is a picture the day I pulled...
Thank you for the information - I never knew Cayenne was good for so many things! We opened up our chickens foot the other day and got another hard core out of it as well as a bunch of pus. Her foot is still very swollen but does not feel hot any more. She is eating and drinking but is still...
Thanks for the input. We have been using Blue Kote on it as well, but the hydrogen peroxide is a good idea. I think we will try that first before moving to an oral antibiotic. I have never heard of the cayenne pepper treatment. I will have to look that one up! Thanks :)
Okay, I have an update.
Her foot is still not any better and she is no longer laying. She is still eating and drinking.
We have her isolated but have let her out a few times to free range with the other girls during the day. It seems like she has lost her spot in the pecking order and the...
Hi there. Just hoping for a little direction as we are still pretty new at this whole chicken thing. We have had our girls now for a year without any problems until last week one of them developed bumblefoot. Thanks to BYC we were able to find out what it was as well as perform the surgery...
Thank you so much for the information. From what I have been reading I think you are right about it being a tendon rupture. This is only the second year that we have had meat birds and our last batch was problem free. We plan on butchering in 3-4 wks. but I hate to see her suffer until then...
We have a four week old White Rock Cornish cross who started to limp about a week and a half ago. We checked her out many times to see what was wrong but we could never find the problem. We thought it may have been bumblefoot but tonight when we picked her up to have a look again, we saw that...
