doubtful because this has been going on since Saturday, getting progressively worse :( The other red sex-linked hen who did the same thing got worse over a few days until she was fully unresponsive in the coop...
I was shaking a bag of worms that usually gets all the girls coming. She didn't even flinch.
The site won't let me upload the video so I put it in dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d15e4p88wph2n6w/IMG_5373.MOV?dl=0
She’s definitely not broody ☹️ We have a black hen who goes broody like every 6 weeks and this is definitely different. She’s not sitting in the nesting box at all. She’s standing up in a corner of the run with her head scrunched into her neck and won’t move at all.
She’s not puffing up her...
Help with a red sex-linked hen. Under/at 2yrs old roughly. We got 2 girls at the same time (rescues). Both red sex linked. They’ve never molted. Always laid. First one did this and we put her down. Second is doing it now.
Honestly, it’s like they were whacked in the head or something. They just...
Thanks!! We are almost out of the layer feed anyway so I will look for a good all-flock or grower feed?? I know the layer feed has oyster shell in it but do the others?
Do Rhode Island reds typically start laying later? Are scraps considered part of the treats category? By treats I mean egg shells, scraps of kale stems, the occasional cucumber peel, watermelon hunk when it's hot, etc. We have meal worms that they get when we want them to follow us somewhere in...
Sorry :( very new to chickens so still trying to learn the abbreviations... Her legs aren't particularly shorter than her two friends but her "thigh feathers" (??) go lower and are bushier.
Her legs seem to have a permanent blackish tinge to them. I thought dirt in the beginning but it doesn't...
Our girls were rescues so I don't know breed :( conditions were rough for them and feed was definitely subpar for the majority of their little lives... Best guess is around 6/7 mo old?!
Now on layer feed with oyster shell in coop, have a big run plus free range daily. Plenty of scraps &...
There are two roosting bars in the front part of the box that they used to sleep on in the first few nights they were here but now they all three squish into one roosting box!
They were cages up in a box their whole lives so they are new to this concept... How do I get them to sleep on the...
We rescued 3 girls that are estimated at ~6mo old. They only just started on layer feed (with us) and have oyster shells as free choice. They're sleeping in their roosting box/nesting box but so far haven't seemed to lay yet.
Basically I'm wanting to avoid having them start laying randomly in...
Thanks all!! I got them scratch & feed organic layer corn/soy free, oyster shells, and mealworms and they seem to be quite excited about that! Also, any input on possible breeds?? Other than cute and fluffy, of course... :)
