We separated out some Bielefelders a couple weeks ago. The best rooster & 5 best hens are in an extra tractor we aren't using for broilers yet this year. Planning to keep hatching eggs for a friend to incubate for us. Really excited to add more Biels to the flock!
We have a broody Biel right now! She's all bark & no bite, though. She puffs up & makes very threatening noises if we even approach, but doesn't peck even if we reach under her. I'm hoping she'll set successfully, but she can't decide between two nesting boxes yet & randomly switches. I didn't...

I definitely understand your fears! We have young children & have butchered a few roosters who became aggressive toward humans in the past.
We currently have 7 roosters (2 or 3 we plan to cull at some point), and 34 hens. 5 of our roosters are 29-week-old Bielefelders, our 2.5-year-old rooster...
That would definitely work to get you a general weight. 🙂 Since chickens are so small, it was important to me to be able to accurately measure increments less than a pound.
I've been using this analog kitchen scale: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002SXV8G2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_7J15QZH838KB6MZ4RPT2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have a digital scale, but the buttons are pretty sensitive so it would be easy for a chicken foot to turn it off during weighing. Getting the...
OK! Time for another weigh-in. I was on time this round at exactly 24 weeks. Do keep in mind, as stated last weigh-in, due to feed changes these weights probably reflect about 2 weeks of suboptimal growth. That being said, 100% of roosters and 25% of the hens are now over 5 lbs, which would be...

We weighed the Biels again today! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get out there at the 20 week mark, so they are 21 weeks and 3 days old. Also, we had to suddenly switch to a different type of feed, changed feeding methods since the last weigh-in, and had some single digit temperatures for a...
