Hello everyone! My family and I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream in that is owning a farm. Although small, and mostly suitable for hunting (fine by me) our 28 acre mountain home is affording us a great place to start a homesteading lifestyle.
I grew up at the base of the mountains in MD. Hunting, fishing, and gardening were a way of life but my parents didn't keep any livestock. That was for extended family members. Now, we are taking this run down house and ground and slowly but surely rebuilding it in hopes of one day having a fully self sufficient farm. You know, in case of the zombie apocalypse!
Our 1st livestock animal we chose was chickens which, surprisingly to me, entertain me tremendously. We've since expanded to ducks with plans in the near future for turkey, peafowl, goats, and wild game birds and within 10 years horses and hog(s). 99% of the meat and veggies on our table consists of wild game I harvest, stock we've raised, or grown in our garden.
I enjoy very much seeing questions raised, answers provided, and the stories told on this forum and I hope my own contributions are as helpful to others as everyone else's has been for me.
