my wit's end with sick chicken

After reading in The Great Big Giant Marek's Disease FAQ Going off of food or inability to “connect” with food when trying to eat. Sometimes mistaken for a sour crop or other crop problems, lesions on the vagus nerve can cause dilation of the crop and/or proventriculus. The inner lining of the...

my wit's end with sick chicken

Well she passed before I was able to leave for the store. She had more foam coming from her crop which I believe she asperated on. I received some hens from someone last summer and they had Marek's, so I keep this young bird away from them, but there is always a way. So I am also wondering if...

my wit's end with sick chicken

I am going to go get the calf-manna medicated chick feed to add to the tube feeding. I have added alfalfa, shelled black oil sunflower seeds, probiotics, and scratch all crushed with a coffee grinder.

my wit's end with sick chicken

I have not. I didn't see eggs in the fecal, so I didn't even give it a second thought. I am sure I can get some amprolium for livestock at the feed store

my wit's end with sick chicken

I have a chicken that is about 4 months old. It has never been real stealthy. It was outside with a couple others it's age and appeared to be doing ok. It would run out to me begging for food although it had chick crumbles, layer feed, mash and scratch. I never thought much of it. Then I noticed...

Toe attached by tendon only, to cut or not? (Gross toe pics, beware)

For her, I thought the best choice was to finish the amputation the horse started. The bone was completely severed, no attaching it back to other bone and if it tried and developed a huge arthritic sore section.... well that would be a long term source of pain for her. All the skin was already...

Toe attached by tendon only, to cut or not? (Gross toe pics, beware)

This morning I noticed one of my hens limping around and upon closer inspection noticed one of her toe ends rotated and covered in dried blood. She either got a toe hung up in the fence somehow and completely severed the skin and broke the bone, or somehow stayed close enough to a horse to get...

Animals are better company too Tigers, horses, elephants, some spiders, birds.... look at a snow leopard; the coloring detail in the fur coat, big beautiful eyes. A fox; the red shine in the fur, the adorable face. A wolverine (yes a wolverine); the...

    Eggs taste horrible

check your feed ingredients and see what it is made of. Maybe there are some fish byproducts in it. If you can try switching feeds and wait a week or two before you try another egg.

Some cool ideas on here for transforming a metal shed... II your shed turned into a luxury chicken suite! On the coop I have that my DH built, I added about 10 holes along two sides of the coop close to the floor and on one side at the very top close to the roof. I used a 2" hole saw bit. Then...

    hen going bald, please HELP...pics

Thank you All! I shall try the wormer and see what happens. The onset of the feather damage (for lack of a better word) was rather quick, so I thought it was a molt at the wrong time of year due to our unusual weather. She appears to be healthy otherwise, red comb and wattles during the day, eat...

    hen going bald, please HELP...pics

No, I haven't ever wormed my birds... I use DE and thought that would always be good enough. What type of wormer would you suggest? I have some pyrantel pamoate paste left over from the horses, would small doses of this be okay for chickens?
