Hi All: was just browsing through the forum looking for fox deterrent ideas and saw this thread about the Ador1 door. I have had this door installed on my coop for five years yes 5 years and have NOT had one problem with it. It works perfectly every single day and I consider it the best money...
There are lot of ideas on this site for heated waterers. Do a search and you will be overwhelmed with the creative ideas people use. I don't live in an area that gets as cold as yours....I live in the southeastern US and I bought a 3 gallon electric heated bucket. I use a heavy weight...
I made muscadine jelly yesterday and have the fruit that was cooked and strained to get the juice. It is not sweetened. Can I feed that crushed fruit to my chickens? I used a gallon of berries and know not to offer all at once, but want to know if it is ok for them.
If they can have it, I...
I have 4 Americaunas and 2 Buff Orpingtons who are 21 weeks old. Some of them started laying about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I got 2 very small eggs from the Buffs and 2 very small blue eggs from the Americaunas (don't know which). My real question is when will the eggs get to at least large size...
"you never know with chickens" truer words were never spoken. My 7 bigs have a whole 8 ft roost. Before the littles moved in, they all slept at one end all bunched together. Leaving plenty of room, Now...they spread themselves out so there is no room for the littles. Crazy Chickens!!! (I...
aart.....thanks for your reply and ideas. Been very busy so sorry for the delay in thanking you. I did as you suggested and put up another roost for the little ones and devised a cover for the nest boxes that I put in place in the evening and remove first thing in the morning. It is keeping...
Murphy here again! My Eight week old chicks are out of the brooder, out of their pen and integrated with the 7 bigs that I had. The transition went well by using the portals so the little ones had a place to run to if they got scared or harassed by the bigs. Everyone gets along pretty well, a...
Can you hang something? I hang both the feeder and waterer but I am not using a stock tank. Not being sure what a stock tank is, maybe you could place a board or something across the top and hang from that. Mine are in a homemade pen 4 ft high, I put 2x2 boards across the corners and I used...
Thank you all for the answers and help!! I had not thought of a light in the coop to encourage them.
LG.....thanks for the heads up about them being the first choice of predators, will definitely keep that in mind as I turn those babies loose and stay close by myself.
Azygous, my chicks are...
Trying to keep up with this extremely busy thread is hard...so many posts about so many things is just wonderful. I love it but can't find the answers to my questions. I have my six 4 week olds in a separate run within my coop run with my 7 bigs. They no longer have the heating pad but the...
Haven't posted in a while, been extremely busy. Got my 6 little chicks a week ago, 4 ameraucanas and 2 buff orpingtons. They have been happily living in a small dog crate with their MHP. Gonna move them and the crate with the MHP to an outdoor pen built inside the bigs coop run. They will...
Hey Chad
Clever idea to use chain to raise the pad up as they grow. I may use that on my MHP, haven't put it together yet but since I am putting it in a dog crate, chains or rope would work well for when they get a bit taller.
Thanks
Wow! Thanks to ALL of you who took the time to respond to my questions so fast. Short answer to why I have the dog crate in the brooder box....."I don't know, it Seemed like a good idea" It just seemed to me that since I was setting up the MHP in the dog crate (small one 12X19) with solid...
Thanks so much for the information in this extremely long thread lol.....I just love this concept and plan to do this very thing in the next week or so to add to my flock. I have only a couple of questions that I must have missed the answers to. First, I plan to build a brooder box, place it...
" We just thought having chickens was a cheap way to get eggs"
Welcome to the club....those first eggs can be really expensive! But so worth it in quality. I have had chickens since Spring of 2013. I started with 11 chickens and now only have 8. They are just coming out a really bad molt...
