    Are ducks worth raising?

Ducks have their pros and cons Ducks are very messy, like all water fowl. You can keep chickens and Ducks together, but I'd be careful. Drakes tend to kill hens for fun, especially if you don't have a rooster I like duck eggs more, they're bigger, and have more umami. They actually lay way...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

How are chanteclers temperament in your experience? Do you ever have issues with cocks getting aggressive? Can you keep cock(s)(erels) together? Are they good at foraging/free ranging? Do they have spurs, if so, how big?

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

Wow. I am beyond words. Thank you Nat, you have been so much help since the beginning, Thank you. I can't wait to start my chicken journey, and when I get the perfect chicken, I'll have you to thank. So tell me, what kind of chickens do you have, and where did all your chicken knowledge come...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

So theoretically if I do this, and it indeed works, I get the perfect color of chantecler I want; does that mean that it technically isn't a chantecler? And if the color of it isn't correct, how likely is it that there are other features of the bird that isn't correct, such as egg laying or...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

OKAY GUYS I FIGURED IT OUT!!! Chantecler chicken is the one!! It's very cold hardy, a dual purpose breed, and comes in beautiful partridge! My only trouble is that all the hatcheries I can find online sell roosters that look like this.. however, this ugly rooster simply will not do. It may be...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

Wow that's a very pretty rooster! My main concern with gamefowl though is that I hear they don't lay all that much. I know this has to do in part because they go broody. Is that the only reason, though? Excluding when they go broody, do they lay as much as a domesticated hen?

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

I think I'll take your advice. Cubalaya seems like the best breed for my interests! I've been looking at online sellers for cubalaya, but all I can find are cubalaya bantams. I'm not interested in bantams since I'll be using them for meat too. Where can I find a high quality, dual purpose...

    Minnesota!

Any advice for keeping chickens in Minnesotas harsh seasons? What kind of coop do you need? What kind of breeds do you guys have/recommend? What breeds won't tolerate extreme cold? Can chickens free range during our winters? Is there a certain diet that they need during the colder months? Any...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

If you trimmed the brown leghorns combs, would they then become cold hardy? Is the only bottleneck their combs and wattles?

    Hybrids/Cross-Breeding

How do I use the calculator where I can select the breed? It's very complex

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

No matter what breed I end up getting I will definitely do this. I just can't resist the appeal of a gold duckwing american gamefowl. So gorgeous. Honestly this is an amazing idea. Sounds like I'd get the best of both worlds with this equation, would definitely have to do some culling over the...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

I'm worried about adding the inefficiency of the gamefowl into the genepool. Don't you think this will negatively impact the performance of the original JG genes, having added gamefowl to it?

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

That's interesting, I never realized that, what recessive genes did you have show up? I actually think about his a lot. I honestly think this is one of my best options. However they're not very broody from what I hear, can you solve this? Do hens genuinely refuse to sit on their eggs? Jerseys...

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

That is actually a really good idea. However I would want my chickens to reproduce on their own, and I don't think the bastardization would brew good genetics. I'd probably end up with the ugly colors of a jersey giant and the terrible laying from the gamefowl lol

Is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

A great option possibly. I would love a do it all chicken, and there are plenty out there, but if only they came in those wild colors.
