Has anyone heard of Proform Feed?

Hi there, and welcome to BYC! I wish I could tell you something about Pro Form feeds. I was just now googling that same feed, and couldn't come up with much info. My feed store has started carrying that line of feed, and I like to do research on what I am buying. Does anyone out there have any...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Okay, I will try that. Tomorrow I am going to add electrolytes to her water as well. Tonight my neighbor came and picked up four birds, one of which was my dominant roo. The others, hens, included a hen which always causes trouble. The remaining birds will hopefully settle down. The hens can...

Totally Stressed flock and what I'm trying so far? pinless peepers may be last hope! long long read

Okay, thanks. My curiosity is satisfied. How are your birds doing? I just gave away a couple of my birds to a neighbor, including the dominant roo, hoping that the stress level will go down in my flock. Of course the remaining birds had to establish a new pecking order as they went in to...

Totally Stressed flock and what I'm trying so far? pinless peepers may be last hope! long long read

I happened to read this thread because it looked interesting. I hope everything is working out fine for your girls now. I have never heard of pinless peepers before. Learn something new every day. But I just have to ask, Rhoise, what is that thing in the background of the picture of Gertie? I...

Not laying where they should be....

I am now resigned to some hens laying in the corner, as well as in the nesting boxes. I just gather eggs from where ever they are. The hens are consistent about using the same corner of the floor, so I guess they think it is a nest.

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Hey thanks, centrarchid. My hen is completely following the pattern you describe, for a hen who went broody probably just before she would have naturally molted. I was getting pretty worried today, because she is looking so pathetic. I am going to isolate her (hopefully DH will help me, as he...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

This is great! Both of you are giving me such good ideas. I do want a chicken tractor, and I see what potential it has for breeding, and for segregating birds. We are expanding our garden, and I want a mobile coop to bring the chickens in there, in a controlled way. So a couple simple...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

We do have a pretty good coop, insulated enough so that outside temperatures of 0 F means an indoor reading of about 15 F. We usually don't get these temperatures, and colder, until December through March, so by then chicks hatched in the fall would be somewhat feathered, and could be kept in...

    PLANNED POULTRY GUARDING DOG

This is a very interesting thread. I have been wondering about what I would like to train my next dog to do, and protecting our property and animals is at the top of the list. The dog we now have is wonderful about protecting her territory but I would not trust her with chickens, nor do I have...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Thanks again to both of you, centrarchid and walkingonsunshine. I will bring a more studied approach to the egg-hatching project this time around. I would like to give my broody hen another chance, so after a careful planning session with my DH I might try again. Although we could easily...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Thanks for the compliment. We really like our birds, and except when they moult they are very pretty. When the cold weather comes, they get such fluffy butts. Here are two pics from last October, the first pic shows a fluffy butt, and the other is one of the hens, showing very typical...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

More good advice. I was pretty sure that some mating was going on, as the boys were chasing the girls fairly often. I have done a bit of reading over the last couple days, and it seems that roosters don't need much time to accomplish the actual mating deed. I really want to get my flock down...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Thanks. Wow, this is really good advice. I thought chickens were pretty easy, but I am learning so much. That doesn't sound like what I am trying to say. What I mean is, there is a lot to understand, and there is a huge amount of knowledge out there for me to acquire. If I want to collect...

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Here are the pictures. This is the dominant rooster. This is the hen who was broody. You can perhaps see a bald patch on her back, which most of the hens have. I was thinking that was from the roosters when they have their way with the girls. Is there a different reason?

Two roosters not doing their job with my 8 hens?

Okay, give me a day to get pics and get them into a post. I am running out the door to work right now. The weather this summer has been what we call hot, that is between 80 and 90 F during the day and dropping below 70 F at night. We had an unusual stretch of this weather, during which I...
