Thank you so much for the encouragement and advice! I will give it some time, but do plan to try again once I know more. I feel maybe I rushed in my excitement.
Okay, so, the swollen ear lobe as of yesterday seems to have gotten a bit less swollen as the top part of the sac isn’t as rounded and more wrinkled like BUT I felt the part that was still swollen and it felt more firm than it did the day before. Should I still just monitor over next few days...
Yes!! Of course hahaha
These are my four pullets- hatched about 7 days ago now.
Here’s Miss Bitty- she’s the broody bantam silkie hen that brought these awesome chicks into the world:
Here’s one of my favorite little ladies, Red. I believe she’s an Australorp. I have two more that are the...
Thank you all so much for the advice and guidance! I love all my girls and the General very much so I was worried. Yes, I’m hoping it is just a bee sting as well. Based off the information I’ve been able to learn and gather from this site, plus the proximity of our hive to our coop, that seems...
Thank you kindly for the advice. I will try again, but next year for sure I will let mom hatch as many as possible! My only hen that gets broody so far is bantam sized, so I was unsure how many eggs she could keep under her…but I’ll definitely give her 5-6 next year and see how she does. It’ll...
Omg we have a hive pretty close to the coop….. The red area you noticed in the first pic is her feathers. She’s got some little areas above her ears w reddish-orange feathering.
It was not hard at all- definitely squishy and NOT firm. No wheezing, no weird smells, no discharge, or bubbling from either nose, beak, or eyes. Here’s a closer pic of her eye, beak, and nose.
I hope so too! Very true about it always being stressful when something happens to our furry and feathered friends. I think she will be alright- as I inspect her more and read more, I’m thinking it may just be an insect bite. She will be closely monitored until I figure it out though. I’m so...
What is Tylan 50? My hen had a swollen ear lobe, no pus or sign of infection really. Possibly bite from a spider? Idk. Wondering if giving her some tylan if it doesn’t start going down by tomorrow would help? I’m learning as I go.
Update and Reply to Alinas:
update on my hen. Her ear canals are totally clear, no mites, no pus, or sign of infection, but may be a puncture wound on the ear lobe- I’m guessing a bite of some kind? Here’s a better pic of the lobe and what I think is the puncture area (it’s that little black...
I dropped temp on the incubator and added more water in increase humidity- but I did not know to calibrate everything before hand, so don’t know if the readings on either temp or humidity were entirely accurate.
