Thank you!! Yes, I started taking it, too!! There must be something to it if it worked that fast!! Within days, she was bathing and scratching. Amazing!
I gave her a liquid-type diet for a week because I thought it could have been an impacted crop, and I wanted to flush the stuff out...
My 8-yr old hen had sour crop... barely eat anything for over a week - even her favorite "soup" (pellets w/ water) - or treats... crop was medium size and felt like a water balloon... crop wasn't going down... poops were very, very, small... loosing weight.... not acting like herself...
Oh, poor guy. I feel so bad for him.
They need to eat in order to heal... if you still can't get him to eat, this is what I do to force feed them by hand:
Take the feed and add water, 1:1.5, feed:water. After the water is absorbed, stir.
If they are not drinking, add more water so that...
I had that problem with my hen. It wasn't as severe but I think the treatment will be the same: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=464760
I didn't remove the scab because I thought an open wound would be a good avenue for bacteria from the poop to enter into her system...
Oh, thanks for your advice and support!! I just wish there was something I could try... she is my favorite and has such a personality that I don't think I could find another one like her in a million chickens. :hit
I haven't thought about worming her. I will do that tomorrow!
Does molasses...
I have a 7 yo hen that was fine until last weekend. Well, I thought she was okay... she hasn't been eating that much (but she never did when she molted and her comb always shrunk like it is now) and has been flying over the fence to forage so apparently she seemed normal. I went away for the...
Update!!! Things werent looking good Georgie (thats her name I forgot to mention it!) still had the scab, and she was still protruding holding it in for a minute but then out would come out. I tried the sugar no luck. I was getting very discouraged, to say the least. But, I kept up...
Just cleaned her again. She kept holding the prolapse in and I had a hard time cleaning it, but that could be a good thing! When I was done, she just jumped about one foot to the crate and went right in, so she is still her fiesty self! Thanks for all your suggestions - I will try the sugar...
AAaaawwwwwww!!!!! I am so sorry to hear about Donzo.... it reminds me of my rooster. It's so hard when you lose them. We try our best and that is all they ask of us.
Are you going to bring him to a state lab? It's usually free - I have University of CT. When I dropped my rooster off...
You are all so awesome for taking the time to help me!!! I appreciate it!
I am glad to hear it looks okay. How long should I soak for? I was just running a slow stream of warm water from a milk carton and rubbing gently to get the stuff off by having my daughter hold her on the trampoline...
