My ring necks are 9 weeks old. Today a healthy male was falling over and kicking on the ground unable to get up. I picked it up and it was strong and screaming. When i put hi. Down he wobbled around ran bit unsteady bumped into things and tipped over again.
I am concerned. Please help...
Yup. I was going nuts too!
I tried to break it down to the simplest scenario - 99.5 at egg height. I just ignored the variables on the mesh, on the sides, probe hanging above egg etc - NOT relevant to our goal.
I decided I would not try to understand the complex stuff as I am not...
Please see my other thread on the setting & hatch.
I got a probe thermometer digital as well.
I got another glass liquid thermometer (blue) which was from one of the Incubator companies and they said it was the standard one they used. It had much larger tube & more number of gradations...
Final count. Correct number is 24 chicks. 43% hatch
About 10 were dead in shell at late stage. 2 did not survive after hatching with my help. A few could not get out.
Most of these seem to have been wrapped up in the membrane while I opened the incubator after day 25.
3 were early dead...
Thanks for all the support, encouragement and help.
Day 28 - moved the last 2 chicks into brooder. All 26 chicks look active and happy.
Ended up with 2 dead in incubator - did not survive the struggle, on dead with open shell.
The rest are either infertile or early dead.
I am reasonably...
Yes I have clean wood shavings but under the paper.
We used to use News paper when I was managing poultry breeding business 30 years ago!
The chicks are very active and making soft chirps. Drinking well No huddling up etc. Passed the first night in flying colours.
I noticed their "wild"...
Day 26 10:30 am. 15 chicks hatched. Moved 10 to brooder. 5 still in incubator drying out. Another 5 pipped.
Gave the new chicks a beak dip in electrolyte & they are happy in the brooder box. Learning to drink and pecking away at the crumble.
Using Pheasant started with higher protein...
Total 11 chicks at 12 midnight day 25. 3 more with long round cracks in shells and a few more pipped. Looks like a total of less than 20 at this point. Good night!
Thanks folks.
Really appreciate the encouragement.
Got 4 more by 2 pm & another 3 by 7 pm. Also saw another 7? pipped eggs. Possiblly more as some of the cracks are low and pointing down.
I was getting quite disappointed that only 2 hatched and another 3 pipped at 8 am. Now it looks...
8 am - 2 chicks. Very quiet and looking wet with clumped feathers. After shining torch, a few chirps. Opened incubator to remove small water dish I had put in - checked other pips and counted about 12. A bit disappointed.
9 am the 2 chicks are looking more lively and drying out. More...
It is now 8 pm day 24 and just 8 or 9 have pipped. The early ones do not seem to have progressed at all - shells look the same. Will my shinig the torch affect them? I hope I have not hurt them by opening to remove thermometers.
I moved the first egg to the front so I could monitor it.

My eggs have started pipping 8 am 24th day. Saw one tiny triangular crack.
At 9 am I checked again and started finding a few more - saw total 5 piped eggs. I opened the incubator for 5 seconds to remove the 3 thermometers and I heard one chick chirp from inside the shell!
Very thilled...
