    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Well, looks like she is at it again. Had to put her back in jail. She was doing well and had her sleeping with Big Hen last night and went out this morning and noticed that she was pecking at Big Hen's vent and she is missing feathers and caused some blood, but not a lot. She is back in jail and...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Well did some more detective work waiting for the peepers. There was a lot of things pointing protein deficiency, so I added quinoa to the feed. Whitey the pecker went right for it. The other hen didn't care too much. I had Whitey out while I watched but when I wasn't she was in chicken jail...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Yeah I think I am going to try the peepers.....it's the cheapest option for me. If it doesn't work I am not out much. I can get some shipped to me for less than $7 for 6 pairs.

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Yes, I did hear of this too, but I know it is quite painful for them to have this done, so I think I would rather either re-home her or cull her. Also, I do not know of anyone that knows how to do this.

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Well Big Hen is all healed and wanting out of the dog kennel so I introduced her back today to Whitey the lone chicken left in the coop. I watched them interact for 20 mins and all looked great, but then as I suspected Whitey started to peck at Big Hen. I really am starting to think that she...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Hey Manlatogirls....would love to call a vet, but the hubby will not pay $70 for a vet bill, so this is me learning on my own the best that I can. :( I did call the vet, but they did not want to help without seeing the chickens. :(

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

I do not feel fluid in their abdomen....blood I believe is only from the other chickens pecking. Sorry if I was not clear before. Once their vents are cleaned up and the vent is no longer bloody, but red/purple and swollen. They all seem fine and laying, eating & drinking before I find them like...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Yeah or if she gets the same issue then I will know whatever it was went right through them. If not, then I know she was the murderer :( and yes she will have to go when/if we get new ones. Trying to rule everything out.....not so easy.

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

That might be true.... I guess since I only have one left I will know if that is the cause soon. Since no one can pick at her. :(

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Here is just after the construction of our coop this summer. There are two front doors that swing open and a small opening for them to get out. That opening we kept open all winter for them to get out and get their water and food. I am thinking now we should close it especially on days like...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Hey, I will send a picture of our coops construction when I find a picture. It should be large enough for 6 hens, but we only had 4.

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Thanks ChickensAreSweet for all the URLs. I checked them all out, but the only symptom I have is a swollen vent. No other symptoms. They are literally fine one day laying eggs and fluffy butt and then the next day I check and they are bleeding from the vent and swollen. I am racking my brain to...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that their vents are swollen and bleeding. I know that the other chickens were pecking, but when I cleaned them up it stopped bleeding, but their vents were very swollen and purple. Their abdomens do not feel full or lumpy. The one I had in the dog crate before had...

    HELP! Losing all my chickens!

We are in the middle of winter here and just two weeks ago I noticed one of my hens had a bleeding vent. I swooped her up and took her in following all the instructions I could find to help her - warm bath, feed her greens and water and kept her warm.....well until my husband got home, but we...

Where to buy organic feed in Nova Scotia, Canada?

Quote: Agreed, I have previously read the Canadian list and it's not 100% non-synthetic in both Canada and US, but it still is better than the alternative. The less toxic material I put in my body the less my liver has to handle. I am never going to be 100% free from all toxins I get that...
